Ive been thinking on getting an S2k... or stick with the lude.. :( hard decision

Well ive been reading alot about those s2000s like alot i get honda tuning they are always in there ludes are the best though ive wanted one and finally had the chance to get one since 03.. ive been looking around just seeing what kind of s2ks i can get all good prices.. i have some questions though.. Parts for an S2000 are they about same price as prelude parts or more expenisve since the S i believe is discontinued will it be harder to find parts for it? I really want to keep the lude but if i find a good deal on an S2000 i may get it.. also for me to do a 5speed swap on mine is just time and money id have to wait prob till next year to start it what options do i have some one help me my head hurts lol. Sorry for my crappy puncutation lol Im thinking all at once..

If you sell the lude, I will slash the tires on your new S2000

Nah I'm just kiddin bro. Just remember an S2000 isn't gonna be a good car for jersey weather. Snow, rain, sleet, D) all of the above. If you want an S, save up and keep the prelude too. Just keep the S2k for summer driving.

and no the parts aren't any harder to find just b/c they are discontinued... So are preludes

But the S2k parts are going to cost more than lude parts. Just for the simple fact its a S2k.

Anyway, my opinion, drive the lude, save up for an S2k separately.

Re: Ive been thinking on getting an S2k... or stick with the lude.. :( hard decision

I was in the same boat for a while, but I did a lot of research and it seems like the Lude is going to be one of those cars I hang on to, like people do with their mustangs. It's simple but fun to drive, it's going to be one of those cars that the style is always in... style. It may not be the fastest thing on the road, but neither are peoples old mustangs that they just cruise around in.

The whole auto/manual swap probably will be a headache, but if it were me I'd wait a year or two longer and keep saving. Honda needs to release a sporty car other than the Si in the low 20s range and put it on a good platform. There hasn't been any news about it, which to people who know Honda's track record, that in itself is good news, they're always highly secretive about things they're actually going to release.

I may just be a bitch, but I would hate to DD an S2000. Mainly due to having to keep it even more spotless than my lude, and I think that it would just get irritating at points.

Re: Ive been thinking on getting an S2k... or stick with the lude.. :( hard decision

S2K is gonna cost u more. More expensive parts and etc. Also they don't have tilt steering so if ur tall it might be uncomfertable (That was one of the main reasons I didn't get one)

Re: Ive been thinking on getting an S2k... or stick with the lude.. :( hard decision

I was in the same boat you are for a while. If you look at my sig, you can see what I did.
I got a steal of a deal on my S2k a year ago. Mine is an '01 with 54k on it. When I got it a year ago it had 48k.

It is more of a pleasure vehicle, since it is a bit more expensive to maintain. For example, the new clutch and flywheel I put in a couple weeks ago, was about $1700.
Someone mentioned the lack of tilt steering, I have no problem with it, and I am 6'1. I think the angle of the wheel is very confortable. I just have to take it easy getting in and out.

Now if you do get one, do what I did to save some money, and insure the car as a pleasure vehicle. Meaning, it will not be your main mode of transportation. I have Progressive, so call them to get more info.

These are just a couple things I am tring to help you with. But keep in mind, the car has lots more power than the Lude, so make sure you learn the car before you think you can handle it. Took me about 2-3 weeks to finally get comfortable in mine.

Good luck !!!

Re: Ive been thinking on getting an S2k... or stick with the lude.. :( hard decision

i been through this..i even made a thread about it. i did this with a s2k/evo/sti/jeep srt-8/ kinda the x5

for the s2k, i thought about it and honestly insurance is killer.

parts areeeeeeeeeee way expensive. there 2 seaters, so like jayknight said and everyone else they are pleasurable vehicles.

in time its a waste of money i think while your young b/c while your making payments on it...thats money that could b going to the lude.

For example, winter comes along, you still gotta pay payments but you really cant drive it..or good luck seeing a pole ya know?

my opinion stick with the lude. all the money going to the s2k could've went to the lude.

oh yeah btw..if you do get the s2k, you have to have money for maintence, and like jayknight said he payed 1700 for a clutch setup.....

idk man gl with your descion.

As far as fuel cost goes, they require premium fuel. I'm sure a lot of you guys already put premium fuel in your ludes; just thought it was worth mentioning. Also, eventually you're going to become unsatisfied and want to put money into it and it'll be pretty difficult having spent everything on the car. I also agree that it would be terrible to drive in the winter months.

Re: Ive been thinking on getting an S2k... or stick with the lude.. :( hard decision

Better hurry 2009 will be the last year of the S2000. Now the only sport car that Honda will have will be the Civic? ha ha,,, I guess the Accord Coupe. If they could come up with a design for a new Prelude and keep the price under $19,000 I'd say the Lude would have a chance, Only thing Honda will have coming is the CZ-R. Even that is still in prototype Guess they are waiting to see what fuel is going to be the overall winner.

I'd say buy your S2000 quickly and hold on to it. Myself I'm going to hold on to my Lude and either rebuild this motor or find a spare to build. I just did the second timing belt job at $150,000 The car runs great compression is still high across all cylinders so its a keeper. If your lude is the same shape or better I'd say keep the Lude.

Well, the power increase is a bit but if you had a RX-7 or Supra your good!

Now I havn't yet drove a S2000 but I have own both that I mentioned, I was afraid if I drove the S2000 I'd want to buy it. I'm happy with the Lude plus its paid for but I am about to dump alot of money into it. I just about dumped $700 in parts and labor to do the timing belt.
I replaced
water pump
t-belt
balance belt
tensioner ( that thing was a grip)
cam seals
front main
new t stat
hoses
belts

I paid a local shop as I usually do all my own work, but the way the ecomony is going I decided to have this guy do it where I usually get all my cars inspected. As they do great work and I wanted to do my part to stimulate the local ecomony

He charged right at $320. Had a problem with a local parts place as their computers are wrong and had 4th Gen parts listed for the 5th. Well after I saw the cam seals I decided to take all the parts back and get them at the dealer. The cam seals had the same part #'s but they were different sizes, I didn't even need a caliper to check it you could see it with the naked eye.

Rule # 1 always use Honda Factory parts you'll save yourself alot of trouble.
