idle and vtec solenoid problems

hi all,
im having 2 problems with my car:
1. idle is floating
2. vtec solenoid not engaging

some background info: 1997 prelude SE 5 speed

so i rebuilt the head because of several oil leaking problems and replaced every seal within the top end including the valve seals. cleaned of the carbon build up on top of the pistons and off the valves. The car ran/runs excellent with the exception of the idle. the idle floats any where from 700- about 200 rpm at operating temperature. along with this sometimes when i drive and stop at a red light the car will idle right down and shut off. also i have noticed the rpm drops faster between shifting gears before it did before. I checked all the vacuum lines and everything seems tight and fine and i even zip tied all of them to ensure a tight seal. any ideas? i just looked closely and noticed my ignition coil is cracked, it could have been like this since i bought the car but i just noticed it now could this be the source of the problem. if so is there any aftermarket ignition i can use like a msd blaster?

My second problem is my vtec solenoid is not engaging. this occurred about 5000 km after the rebuild although i did not notice the exact time it stopped working. after being on the highway in "vtec mode" my car shut off and engine light came on, i got the code read and it just said the vtec solenoid is the problem. The screen/gasket was completely clean when i took it out because i read this was a common problem so i cleaned it again anyways and still nothing. does anyone have any other ideas? (there is also a good connection to the solenoid to the harness).

any help would be great, thank you.

Re: idle and vtec solenoid problems

#1: the FINAL idle problem thread!!!!!

#2: you might need to clean out the vtec solenoid, i'm pretty sure there's a screen in there that gets gunked up that you gotta clean.

Re: idle and vtec solenoid problems

clean the sensor near the injectors it has two bolts and two hose attacted to it that coolant runs through that will sort the idle out,
