Header/Muffler doing anything?

98 Base H22A4/5sp
DC Sport Header and A'Pexi muffler. BUT it looks like everything in between the header and muffler is stock. So, am I really gaining anything? If not, I'll put a stock muffler back on this thing and not draw so much attention from Johnny Law.

Re: Header/Muffler doing anything?

You would get a lil more power with the full cat-back setup, if you're looking at the exhaust and still see the original heat shields, resonator, etc., you still have the factory exhaust, but if that's the case, i'd go with the custom piping and add the muffler you already have & you'd be good to go them imo

Re: Header/Muffler doing anything?

No offense, but the header is giving you almost no gains at all, even tho it probably looks better than the one that came with the car.

I've heard 1-3 hp gain with a DC header, and I've heard other people say they've LOST hp because of it. Take it how you want.

The muffler isn't giving you more than .5 horsepower. Not 5. But .5

I have an apexi exhaust also, so I know how ricey they get. I have a resonator welded into my exhaust, then I have a resonator that bolts into the muffler. Definitely quieted everything down a lot.

But no, your not gaining a whole lot with the apexi muffler/dc header combo. If you'd like to go back to stock, go for it. You won't be missing out on anything.

I think shipping would be pretty high to Texas.

Re: Header/Muffler doing anything?

Smokey I couldnt say it any better dude. If your gonna get an exhaust for a stock h22, I recommend getting the hytech replica, high flow cat, and mate it with a 2.5 inch catback exhaust. Then after all that you dyno tune the car. Thats probably the best way to make horsepower off bolt on mods. Oh and a cold air intake also.

Might as well save the money thear are other mods you can do that cost wise you will be better off with then the a tune. After you do some of then and a few engine up grades then you should get a tune.
