occasional throttle issues

Hi my name is Scottie, I'm new to the world of Prelude. I just bought a 98 Type SH, and sometimes when driving around 3000 RPMs the engine sputters and almost acts like it is hitting the governor. But when it comes out there is a jolt of power and everything is back to normal. I already replaced plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. I ran some FI cleaner through it and it is still acting up. I am stumped, any help would be awesome. thanks

Re: occasional throttle issues

A bad O2 sensor can create those symptoms. Are you getting a "check egine light" ?

Yeah the other day I got a check engine light. But it listed like 10 possibilities for that code. I think it was P170 and P172. I was hoping it wasn't the O2 sensor...those are expensive. thanks

Help with codes p0170/p0172 - http://www.obd-codes.com/p0172

From what i gather, those two codes along with code p0173 gather together to make peoples lives miserable. I've read on a few obdII forums that you should try the following:

- open then retighten your gas cap.
- inspect your PCV valve/and or replace($5 dollar part) and inspect the PCV hose leading from the valve cover to the intake manifold to see if it's not, "pinched."

but you should really get the real DTC codes, make sure it's just those two and no others...

Re: occasional throttle issues

cool thanks I think I am going to take it in for a full diagnostic, autozone did the scan and right away they said to replace the O2 sensor. But I did some research first and saw that even off spec fuel could throw that code...we'll see. I hope it is not the O2 sensors. I have only had this car 3 weeks and have dumped so much money into it.
