Clutch slipping or dead??????????

Ok so the other day when i pressed the clutch to start my car it didnt feel as stiff as it usually did, so as i start to drive i noticed that the bite for my clutch is really low (like 1 inch after i release the clutch it starts to bite but usually its like 3-4 inches after i press on the clutch). But after a good 10-15min of driving my clutch feels like it never happened it just went back to normal so does ne 1 know if i have to buy a new clutch or is it like the cable or sum10 please help THANK YOU and MUCH ALOHA

Re: Clutch slipping or dead??????????

em hard to say at this point b/c the symptoms aren't that bad yet. Have you looked at the clutch reservoir to see if the fluid is low at all? how many miles do you have? Also, a quick test to see if your clutch is on it's last leg. Start driving and when your in 3rd (or 4th) at relatively low speed and rpm, give it a lot of gas and see if the motor motor "slips out" from the tranny. It will still stay in gear but you will feel the motor is spinning independently of the tranny. That will work when the clutch (or flywheel for that matter) have nothing left on the friction plates.

Re: Clutch slipping or dead??????????

in theory your clutch should be good to go at 60k. I would start looking at fluid issues for now. Do a search on clutches here on PZ and you will find lots of pictures. I'm at work and pictures are blocked for me here.

Re: Clutch slipping or dead??????????

Do what he says and check your clutch fluid reservoir, the fluid level should be between the indication lines.
Also, go underneath the pedal assembly with a flashlight and shine it behind the clutch pedal. See if it's oily/greasy. Could be your clutch master cylinder, if that's the case.

be sure to download the online manual(located in my sig).

did you bleed it after refilling? If not, it will still feel weird b/c there is air still in the lines.

Re: Clutch slipping or dead??????????

DOT3 brake fluid is the same fluid as clutch fluid. They are very similar hydraulic systems. Both are designed for DOT3 brake fluid..Honda Grade Only.

Re: Clutch slipping or dead??????????

What color should my clutch and brake fluid be?
My friend says it should be clear, that's the color of his on his 4th gen.
But mine is a dark brown.
For both the brake and the clutch fluid.
