Rear Lower Tie Bar install?

So I bought a rear lower tie bar and wanted to confirm the install is just put the car on jack stands, remove the lower control arm bolt, stick in the tie bar, replace bolt and your done right?

Anyone ever install one before, any tips?

Heres the thing I bought

Re: Rear Lower Tie Bar install?

yeah thats pretty much the basics of it. you might wanna soak the bolts down with pb blaster to make it easier on you.

Re: Rear Lower Tie Bar install?

hope you dont' have a rust issue. if you do you'll need to hit those bolts w/ some heat. be careful not to heat it too much cuz you'll prob break off the welded nut. if rust is no issue just hit it w/ some pb blaster like kev said and you'll be good to go.

before and after pics please!

Re: Rear Lower Tie Bar install?

hopefully you dont have the same problem one of my buddy's had. The holes on the lower bar weren't big enough for the stock bolt to go thru. I'm not sure which set he got, but it was a no-name ebay one. He just drilled the holes bigger and he still drives the car everyday.

Show pics!!!

Re: Rear Lower Tie Bar install?

rear tie bars are useless other then for the bling factor. they offer no strengthening of the suspension or chassis.

Re: Rear Lower Tie Bar install?

A DIY would be very nice, although I've heard it's a pretty straightforward install. Good luck!

Re: Rear Lower Tie Bar install?

thread jack!! 4 those that still wanna see pics. i did it took me like 4hrs mainly because of my right bolt. first it didnt wanna come out i had to take a torch to it and heat it up, and then it didnt wanna go back in straight took me awhile to line it up. left side no problems. if both of your bolts are like my left, it shuldnt take more then an hour. i also found like an avocado pit or sumthing decomposing above the exhaust pipe heat shield

some tips
-i had my wheels off for painting calipers, makes it alot easierrrr
- if u put bricks under your rotors/wheels the control arm stays in place and bolt hole stays aligned
- if your bolts were rusted re-grease before you put them back in so u dnt have 2 wrestle them out again

ebay bling

and yes i test drove feels a bit stiffer

edit: ooo ic this is 5thgen section. i have a 4th gen..owell

Re: Rear Lower Tie Bar install?

is it actually stiffer? or you just think it is? I'm not trying to say your lying but sometimes even when I install something, I'll once in a while think that it is actually effective until I drive it around more then realize that it actually had no effect. I'm about to order the obx one in polished...hopefully it'll actually strengthen my chassis if not then atleast a bling factor as Beaker says. :D
