Why wouldn't my low oil light have come on

Was driving my son to his doctor appointment today I just had the timing belt and water pump replaced. I was smelling something burning so I pulled over and saw some steam/ smoke coming from under the intake manifold. I didn't see anything wet or spewing out of a hose or flange (gasket). So I take the car to the dealer and have them check it out, turns out its the o ring in the oil cooler (area where the oil filter screws on) now the tech said it was about out of oil, so I asked how much they drained off, so basically it was about 2 1/2 quarts oil. WHY THE H@LL WASN"T MY OIL LIGHT ON? maybe burnt out bulb? That would have sucked if I lost the motor as this one is in excellent shape.

Also while there I looked at a S2000, the sales guy tells me I better grab one. Seems 2009 will be the last year of the S2000 as well. WHAT THE H@LL is wrong with Honda? So now we are stuck with the Accord Coupe? That sucks!!!

Re: Why wouldn't my low oil light have come on

the oil light doesn't come on til its ridic low on pressure, around 7psi IIRC. 2 1/2 quarts i'm pretty sure is still enough to provide sufficient oil pressure.

mine eventually came on when it was 4 quarts low, as a point of reference

My dad's Lude had that problem and got it fixed before it became a problem, started out as a minor oil leak and they happened to spot it when he got his auto tranny serviced.

Re: Why wouldn't my low oil light have come on

so i just pulled off the highway to go to someones house, and my oil light started flashing just as I pulled into the driveway. Does it only flash for being low oil? I noticed a couple spots in my garage.

Yeah your engine holds 5 quarts, so 2.5 is still enough to keep it alive. Probably won't engage VTEC though. The oil light comes on when you have less than 8 PSI, so when you're down to your last quart or so

Re: Why wouldn't my low oil light have come on

well. I figured I had waited long enuff and the engine was cooled down. So I checked the oil.. Bone dry. Someone drove me over to a gas station and i got 2 liters in there. Gonna go to canadian tire and get a big jug, and then get an oil change this week. gonna get fuel injector cleaner for next fillup of gas and also Sticky Valve cleaner. I think my vtec valve is where all my oil got burned up at.

Burning Oil, web server down.. Not a good saturday for me.

Re: Why wouldn't my low oil light have come on

Check the O ring, only cost me $44 at the dealer and they even did the oil change for the same price. I thought its was definetly going to be higher.
