Icon5 DTC P0170 w/ DTC P0171

Hey everyone, I've been trolling the forums for a while, but just recently became a member...

I've got a 97 prelude with over 250K+ miles. We just had a major service from a Honda Certified Tech that we've used since bought new. He says he replaced the usual stuff on a major service, wires, O2 sensors, cleaned the EGR which he said was sticking (I don't remember if it was open or closed).

The car was lurching slightly on start-up, and being a little sporadic lurching when driving -- it tripped a check engine light but the tech cleared it trying to see if it would come back because he couldn't tell where it was coming from. It took over 1,000 miles but the problem came back and tripped the light again. I pulled the codes and got P0171 w/ freeze frame data below and P0170.

I have looked through the manual and see a troubleshooting walk through for the P0171 code but I'm missing the reference somewhere to the P0170 code. Has anyone had this problem? I noticed another person with the same two codes, but no post about their solutions...

My reader gave me a freeze frame:

P0171: System Too Lean (Bank 1)
Fuel Sys 1 - CL
Calc Load (%) - 49.8
ECT (degrees F) - 117
SIFT B1 (%) - 46.8
LTFT B1 (%) - 19.5
MAP (inHg) - 14.7
Eng RPM - 3101
SPD - 70mph
IAT (deg F) - 89
TPS (%) - 20.7

P0170 Fuel Trim (bank 1)
I figure I could do the O2 sensor check easy (Ch 11 pg 81 in the manual), and supposedly he replaced the fuel filter and air filter.

Thank you!

I did end up fixing it, but we got rid of the car...

If i remember correctly, there was oil coming through to the exhaust coating the pre-cat o2 sensor. I replaced the o2 sensor and it fixed the codes. Obviously I didn't fix the source, but it did fix the lean and trim code...

Good luck!
