Need some help installing the JDM Bumper Pole

As many of you know, I am resurrecting a terribly scratched up JDM front bumper. This bumper came with JDM Fogs (driving lights) and Cornering Lights. I came across a JDM Bumper Pole and I know that alot of people are going to say "that looks tacky" but I had to get it. My choice of getting it was mainly as a conversation starter and piece of rarity that matches the style of car I'm going towards.

I haven't found any directions or write ups on the install of this piece, however, so what this thread is all about is my attempts at doing it myself and hopefully, somebody who has done this will chime in and tell me if i"m doing it right or wrong.

So here is the first picture, the top pole portion unscrews into 4 different pieces:

Now based on pictures I've seen (not measurements) I've traced where i believe I should make the cut:

Next I dremelled the hole and smoothed it out:

Next, to tighten up all the pieces, you have to begin screwing the bottom threaded piece upwards after screwing the top threaded piece down on the top:

I have no idea how this is supposed to look, nobody's taken a closeup of theirs:

And to further add to confusion, I have no idea how this part is even suppose to attach anywhere on the inside of the bumper. I just hope it's not going to interfere with any part of the rigid bumper structure later on when I put it on. Right now, it's just balancing there due to it being clamped on either side:

So the next step is to test the wiring harness I have (in 3 different pieces) and try to get the thing to work before I put it on. Oh yeah, and I've got to paint this bumper too, haha.

Re: Need some help installing the JDM Bumper Pole

This was posted in another thread before. It's a JDM pole for parallel parking. You push a button the pole goes up so you can actually see where the tip of your car is.

Re: Need some help installing the JDM Bumper Pole

In Japan, the roads and alleyways are so much tinier than in the US, and the Prelude is actually considered one of the larger cars roaming the streets around there. So squeezing in and out of tight spaces to park in areas meant for a much smaller car gets difficult. These poles (because there is a rear one that's fixed to the rear bumper or spoiler) act as a guide for those larger cars not to start hitting other cars when they get in tight spaces.

Re: Need some help installing the JDM Bumper Pole

I'd probably never use it. I have the 2 buttons and dimmer switch on my panel, and the cruise button is useless since I yanked that off the car. When I go to paint it, the roof switch will be useless too since I'm getting rid of that and filling it in with a welded in 4th gen roof.

Re: Need some help installing the JDM Bumper Pole

You should consider this instead of welding in a 4th gen roof. Not only will it look awesome with your black paint, but it'll save more weight too.

Re: Need some help installing the JDM Bumper Pole

Woah E that's a big step at something different!

I'm really not sure how the mounting the motor would go I would imagine some plumber's tape/backstrap to an are that would be covered by a light or something. Like just forward of the barcket that is currently on there. Use a longer/another bracket and screw into the meat of where the turn/fog goes. Shouldn't need much. The nut should hold it from the top. (BTW...power antenna goes on the back )

Re: Need some help installing the JDM Bumper Pole

I've seen this on a lude before but I think it was a 4th gen.

It's a pole that u use when ur parking to tell where the curb is since japan has such small roads. That's why they have power folding mirrors

Geeze guys, I didn't think it was that abnormal, haha.

I've got long fingers, which is a blessing and a curse for working on our cramped-engine bay cars. Both of my thumbs do it though, :-)

It is a curse! Do you ever try and push something hard with your thumb and the skin in you knuckle gets almost unbearably sore? It sucks!!

There are pics of a 5th gen with the bumper pole on Polands website, www.hondaprelude.pl

I'll see if I can find the pics.

Edit: Sorry, pics aren't there anymore.
