With my federal tax return

On its way home.

I am planning to do a cat-back exhaust.

I am planning on the Megan Racing NA type Cat-Back.

What I am asking here is that if anybody has legitimate reasons as to why I should not buy it, let me know. I just want to make sure I won't get ****ed over in the end, since this is quite a bit of money for a 16 year old to be spending.

My question is, why do you want to buy "that" one?
Just curious, not a trick question.

Re: With my federal tax return

Well I have spent quite a while looking at many different exhaust videos (possibly every video on youtube plus more lol) and I believe it has the best sound. There are some that I believe also sound great (Mugen, Skunk2) but they cost a TON.

what is your budget? how much will that one run you?

u r better off having a shop weld up some custom piping and just get a real nice muffler

My budget is about 275-350 without shipping. The megan racing I found was 285$ + shipping.

Re: With my federal tax return

Well, those are good reasons.
When I was 17 with my 4th gen, I spent $200 getting new piping and got a muffler, floormats, and an intake from a friend for $60. If you find a different muffler you like, you can go that route instead of the catback.
Make sure it's 2.5" piping and the muffler (if separate) has a 2.5" inlet.

Megan is known as muddle grade. Their parts are decent, but nothing spectacular. They're basically DC Sports but cheaper. Personally, if I were in your shoes and couldn't afford one of the nicer exhausts I want an Apex'i WS2), I'd go custom piping route and just search around for the muffler I want at a lower price and put that on at the time of the piping.

One of the things that makes me wonder is how much the custom piping would be. I have no knowledge of any places around here that could do that.

Any muffler shop could, just make sure they're reputable. The place that did mine lied about what size pipe they used. It was too small.

Piping is piping, as long as the size is right.

Soooo then what exactly is the difference here....

I buy a cat-back with muffler for 300 from one place.

I buy piping for lets say 200 from one place, and a muffler from another for 100.

Am I missing something?

Edit:

I hate the sound of the Evo2

Re: With my federal tax return

Yup, that's basically it.
Have them put a resonator in though, that always helps with the sound on ANY exhaust. Basically it just tones it down before it gets to the muffler.

Re: With my federal tax return

i think its better to get it out mandrel bent 2.5" from kteller which comes with the resonator. then you could sport your choice of muffler.

Re: With my federal tax return

I also think you should wait a for a used one to come along at an affordable price. If you want nice sound (not to mention better performance), you gotta spend the money. An exhaust system is one of the last things you want to skimp on.

I am still not seeing the difference between getting custom piping with a muffler or a cat-back.....

Re: With my federal tax return

the difference between a shop doing it and ordering a high end catback is the way the piping is bent and the longevity of the welds. a high end catbck, (apex'i, greddy, hks) is mandrel bent while a muffler shop will crush bend piping which results in slightly less exhaust flow velocity. i have also found that an exhaust shop put together exhaust will not stand up to the test of time like a nice catback will. i have had my Apex'i N1 catback for 3.5 years now and havent had one problem out of it. these are just my experiences though. i say save your money for something you really want. there is no sense in cheaping out and settling for something because truth is you will never be happy with it.

Re: With my federal tax return

There is no difference, that's the thing, especially if the shop doing it had a mandrel bender. Even crush bent isn't THAT big of a difference. It shows in the numbers, but you really don't feel it.

By getting custom piping, it just enables you to have a wider range of mufflers to choose from for the sound you like.
