I'd love to be able to find the relay / switch that turns on the interior lights and set it up to keep the lights lit for at least 30-40 seconds as opposed to the stock 15-20 seconds. It's crazy. Seems like you get in the car in the dark and the light is off before you can find the ignition switch with the key. anybody found a fix for this?

That would be a big undertaking. You could pull down the dome light and try putting a big cap in line, like 600 microfarad or so ??? Other than that you're talking a timer IC and relays and all kinds of garbage.

or you could just flick the switch for the dome light all the way to the right. that will just turn it on.

the ignition should also be illuminated in order to help you find it.
perhaps carry a flash light? keychain light? setup a solar panel LED so that once dark it just illuminates onto the ignition until the battery dies?

Re: What turns on the interior light when you open the door in a 5th gen?

Out of my league....I have considered some independent LED courtesy lights, switch operated of course and mounted up under the dash.

Superbrightleds hooked me up with some excellent white 194 replacement LEDS that look like daylight while they're on in the overhead light. I put'em in the map lights and one in the trunk too. What a difference! They have a slightly softer version that I used for the tag light.

Appreciate the response and advice.

Thanks, V1

It may sound kinda obvious but if you want your domeon longer just keep the door open till you put the key in the ignition.

It's a switch in the door dood, like, the one in your fridge?
When the door is open there's a little spring thing that isn't depressed, because the door normally holds it closed.

Also a capacitor would fully work for that, if you really want to bother.

Re: What turns on the interior light when you open the door in a 5th gen?

Thanks for explaining it. Now that I've got daylight quality LED's instead of the standard 168/194 bulbs life has gotten a little better.

Thanks again for taking the time.

i know there's a switch... but it has something to do with the multiplex controller inside each door too. for my problem at least, i'm not sure if that helps velocity any

Re: What turns on the interior light when you open the door in a 5th gen?

I don't think there is any kind of multiplex module. As far as I know the dome light wire is 12V and the door pin switches the ground for it. You can check by pulling out the door pin, testing the wire for 12v and then make sure that you do indeed have a good ground with the screw that holds it in. What is the issure you're having?
