Icon6 Do I NEED balance?

I posted this issue in the balance delete mod post but didn't get a response yet and started thinking it may deserve it's own thread. But I'm new so put me in my place if I'm out of line here.

1st my car is a 97 prelude with H22A (JDM) w/ stock tranny. Only mods so far is stage 1 clutch and CAI.

About 2-3 months ago my crankshaft keyway stripped and I had to take my car to a mechanic to get it fixed (I know a small amount about hondas but I don't have much time to work on them myself). He fixed that issue but while he was down there he said there was a belt that had completely shredded. The car still functioned without the belt but he said it was attached to the balance shaft and some other stuff. When he hooked it back up the balance shaft was locked and would cause the same issue again so he said he could either remove the gear hooked to balance shaft so everything else could use the belt or take apart the engine to figure out why the balance shaft was locked up.

The mechanic was kind of a country dude and admitted he didnt know a lot about hondas and I'm pretty much relaying what he told me so I hope I'm saying all this where you guys know what I'm describing.

For now I told him to take off the gear and so far the car drives fine. Once out of 100 times in 1st gear when I'm letting off the clutch the whole car will shake (er shutter really) for about 2 seconds and then when RPMs get higher the shake goes away. It almost never happens in any other gear and doesn't seem to be occurring more often.

As far as getting this fixed I could go get molested by the dealership here or I could take my chances with another country mechanic (all of them here are because everyone and there mom owns an F-150 or Ram 1500 here). No one here knows anything about imports except a few ppl I meet on the streets and they do most of their own work because there is no where to go.

Do I NEEED to fix this or is this something that could go on the back burner? Apparently there is mod where this is done on purpose so maybe I can call it a mod, LOL? I know the answer will not likely be cut and dry but any input on this will be appreciated.

Re: Do I NEED balance?

its not gonna hurt anything to take the belt off for the balancer shafts. you may get a slight increase in power, but as your finding out it the motor vibrates a tiny bit more. if you can deal with that, then your good.

if the balancer shafts are indeed locked up, your looking at paying a fukc-ton of money to get that fixed, so if you don't mind the vibrations, dont worry about it.

Re: Do I NEED balance?

some people even pay money to have a balance shaft eliminator kit fitted as it increases hp. you should consider yourself priveleged. lol

Re: Do I NEED balance?

as stated....the balance shaft belt isn't really needed. But u will feel more vibrations at lower rpms. There is a balance shaft eliminator kit, but the way u have it is fine.

Re: Do I NEED balance?

Thank you sooo much for your fast response. And it makes me feel better that my engine isn't in imminent danger. I think I can handle the vibrations to save a "fukc-ton" of money that could be used better elsewhere IMO.

THANKS!

Re: Do I NEED balance?

i have the kaizenspeed balancer shaft eleminator kit installed on my h22a1 block. i gained 8-10 hp aproximately cant tell exact because i did one other small mod when i did it. granted im boosted so whatever mods i do is more then N/a would show but it is a gain nonetheless. yes you do feel a shake at idle... but its not like your motor is gonna fall out. if you do performance motor mounts your gonna feel a shake regaurdless. this mod gets a thumbs up from me.

Re: Do I NEED balance?

buster do you have stock motor mounts?

for ~10hp i'm considering taking the belt off, but i have ES inserts and i'm wondering if the combination of inserts and no B.S.'s will be unbearable with the vib's.

Re: Do I NEED balance?

honestly tho, i installed the inserts about 6 months ago, and they've either broken in or i got used to them cuz it HONESTLY feels like stock again.

i remember as soon as i installed them the steering wheel would dramatically shake @ idle........
now there's no shaking.

lemme go cut that belt in half and see what happens

and FOUR bans??????
it was seriously an hour ago you had 3!!!!
