Bushing?

Okay I have looked at alot of sites and I have yet to find a bushing set for my 2001 honda prelude base type. I have found many sets for the SH type prelude but would those work on the base type models? Please list any sites that I could purchase bushings from.

Re: Bushing?

Energy Suspension is the only company that makes aftermarket bushings for the Prelude. My experience with them many years ago is that they're crap. I replaced them with new OEM bushings after only 1k miles and a single track event. It's due to the suspension design of the Prelude, not necessarily ES' bushings.

what was the problem with them if you dont mind sharing? i have heard nothing but good things about these bushings and was even looking at investing in a total chassis setup of es bushings

Re: Bushing?

I could induce a 1+ degree camber change on the rear end by prying just a bit on the lower control arm. The problem is that the control arms do not move perpenicular to the main axis of the bushing. This causes the bushing to bind, and since the poly they use doesn't have as good of a memory as the OEM rubber bushings, the ES bushings eventually deform and develop a fair amount of slop.

I now use all spherical bearings in my suspension, as there is no way to use derin or any other hard material for bushings. The suspension needs the additional movement that spherical bearings allow.

Re: Bushing?

Keep in mind that I'm not bashing ES in any way. It's the suspension design on the Prelude. It's a sort of modified double wishbone.

As a matter of fact, I'm likely going to buy the ES bushing setup for our 99 Miata. It's been getting pretty good reviews on the Miata boards.

Re: Bushing?

Hey folks.

I'm considering replacing all the bushings on my prelude.

And through searching I was considering doing the whole energy suspension kit until I found this thread.

OEM is SO much more epxensive that I'm not sure I really want to go that route...

any further feedback on these?

Re: Bushing?

You can go with Hard Race. They make two types of bushings: rubber and spherical bearings. The sphericals are not really meant for a street car. I just ordered a set of sphericals to serve as a back up to the custom sphericals that are in my car now. Cost was around $900 for the set, but that does not include the upper control arms.

I'd expect the rubber bushings to run around $600 or so for a full set, not including the upper control arms. It might be cheaper, but I don't know. If you're interested, I can put you in contact with someone that sells them. I wouldn't mind putting together a group buy if there was enough interest.

BTW, I just found out last week that Hard Race offers products for the Prelude! Good news indeed.

What are the benefits of these over energy suspension? I mean even the 600 set is $450 more expensive than the energy suspesion, whats the difference in the cost for?

My car is for the street, not planning on it seeing any time on a track, I just want to help out some of the rattles and creeeks and tighten up the suspesnion a bit as its been more and more sloppy.

I can literally see the bushings in my tokico shocks wear away and starting to be flaky.

And the set that you said isn't for the street. what makes it so? too hard? I dont know **** about these things and would look forward to any info/help you could provide.

Thanks!
