Re: Help with front speaker wires

Front Speakers 6 1/2" Doors
Left Front (+) Blue/Green
Left Front (-) Gray/Black
Right Front (+) Red/Green
Right Front (-) Brown/Black
Rear Speakers 6 1/2" Rear Deck
Left Rear (+) Blue/Yellow
Left Rear (-) Gray/White
Right Rear (+) Red/Yellow
Right Rear (-) Brown/White

since these wires are usually in a wire loom from the HU to their departure into the door, where they go through yet another bundled loom or AB Plug, you are often better off pulling a new set of wires through the factory grommet in the door. It will be a lot less painfull as far as troubleshooting is concerned.

Re: Help with front speaker wires

Sounds like you have a broken wire. Make running a new wire a last result. 5th gen doors suck! If you have a meter put it on continuity or ohm and check the wires and find out which wire is broken. This will at least narrow down the problem and inform you you will need to run wires. Other way to test is switch sides. Wire your right out puts to left side and see if it works. May be a bad channel. (Unlikely)

sorry, you didn't post what exact year.. the information I posted was for a 2000 model.

Hey Jesse, I find running a new wire to be MUCH less hassle and headache then trying to run down a piece of wire that is old and dry and could be shorted out anywhere. (IMO) But going with your logic... it is best to start by checking the wire where there is movement.. the door, the AB Plug where it splits off the wire loom, and the AB plug behind the dash. etc.

Re: Help with front speaker wires

Oh I hear ya! Running new wire is usually easier. Sometime poke your head inside a 5th gen! I planned on doing window automation and running 2pr of new speaker wire in the doors. Haha! Not the case. One day ill dig in and do it. You can't really access the interior plug or even the area to drill new holes! Its a pain.

Hopefully you just have a bad pin in your harness adaptor plug. Check that out too!

to complete what Jesse started here, IF your speakers are wired out of phase ( ie: the + / - are hooked up wrong) your ears will perceive a flat, less bass, dull sound. you will not hurt the speakers by hooking them up wrong. To remedy the issue, fade your HU output to the front speakers only, then just take one speaker and change the polarity.

listen to a song your are familiar with, prefferably on cd since it is the most dynamic sound. do it a couple times, swappping the wires, and you will hear a difference. your job is to choose the configuration that gives you a full, stereo, bass rich sound.

take pictures if you can, specifically of the wirring as you replace it. I am interested in seeing it.

thanks! ~R
