Damn insurance is EXPENSIVE

EDIT!!!

So my mom gave me a misunderstanding. She made it sound like my car alone would be 500 bucks a month. But in reality it's around 250 a month, it's just 500 bucks when we add the rest of my families monthly cost.

I pay $240 a month and I thought I was getting shafted. Jesus. That's $6k a year man. That's how much a paid for my car! Brutal... Yeah I'm pretty sure you can find cheaper insurance if you just look around. Oh, and listen to Bill, he's not a TOTAL idiot.

Re: Damn insurance is EXPENSIVE

these are the factors when getting insurance:

  • not age but EXPERIENCE. a 18 yr old w/ 3 yrs exp is better than a 19 yr old w/ 1 yr
  • accidents
  • tickets
  • suspensions
  • dui/dwi/dwai
  • vehicle safety features - abs, day run lts, alarm, airbags, etc.
  • physical damage code - indicates cost of parts and damages per veh (u will not know this, the ins co will)
  • obviously what coverages you choose and what deductibles (higher the ded the lower the prem)
  • your work/school/train commute - if you drive 0 days 0 miles each way and 3k for the year = cheap! (hint: there is no way for them to check this )
  • safety courses: defensive driving, driver safety (drivers education)
  • student: if you are under 25 and are a full time student w/ GPA of 3.0+ u can get GSD (good student discount)

Yeah, she messed up big time. Even my dad thought my car was specifically 500 bucks a month. It's really 250 for full coverage.

absolutely not. when you bind the contract it can be looked over for 30 days. so if u lied about accidents/tickets/suspensions/dui's and such and dmv reports indicate something diff it may go up. but if all info is correct from the start than the price they will be what u get

Damn you guys pay a lot of insurance. I pay $45 a month for Liability for 1 car, and it'll be $81 for 2 cars when I insure my other Prelude... If I remember correctly, it'd be around $71 a month if I have full coverage....Some of you guys will have to wait till you're 25 so that you'll get a big discount

$250? I pay $73 a month and that is with full coverage. Go USAA, number one rated company in customer service in the U.S. You or a family had to of served in the armed services though.

We are going to check USAA and see if we can get it down to 120 or less. My dad was in the navy reserves for a few years, so.

happened to my friend, he was able to work something out and keep the car with the same title and still got it fixed. was a 1995 civic si. hood, bumper, quarter, bent frame, worth well over to fix than replace but he was able to work it out and its once again on the road

it's prob your age and driving history. GEICO is great but not always the best for young people. but $275 for full covg may not be that bad depending on your age, location, and driving history

that blows bro. it's uncommon but it happens, esp w/ smaller companies. i wrecked my 01 Lude that i paid $6500 for and i got back $10400 from insurance, bought the car from salvage for 650 and parted it out for almost $5000. so i made out like a bandit!

Re: Damn insurance is EXPENSIVE

Dude, if you're ever going to get more into modding your car (whether it be visuals or performance) Allstate is the way to go. 18, liability + uninsured motorist + something else I got for $160 a month, I got a family member to sign up on my account (which was then made theirs) so now it's $130. Not only am I protected (to an extent of which I selected) if some idiot hits me and is uninsured, but my mods (visual and performance) are covered too! Allstate is the only company I found around here that covers both visual and performance based mods. Plus with allstate if I get in an accident my rates won't go up. sorry to re quote the commercial.

When I got my car they told us it was going to be $474 for me to be thr main driver on the car.
im 19...

I'm 20, have a perfect driving record, and pay $240 a month for full coverage w/$1000 deductible. It's kind of ridiculous...Bill...got any advice? Other than get older?

all that info is so incorrect. i used to work for Allstate. your agent is either a liar or a thief. not all your mods will be covered, trust me. and if you do get hit they will want every receipt for every mod and they will not except eBay or PayPal receipts. good luck w/ that ins covg man. hope you truly are adequately protected.

depending on where you live if you are a new driver at the age of 19 that might be the rates. i always recommend calling around to as many companies as you can. it never hurts to shop around. call the number and use the promo code in my original post in this thread to get a quote. you've got nothing to lose by getting quotes! good luck

$240 w/ full coverage is not that bad if you are a new(er) driver. take defensive driving, if you are a student ask about GSD good student discount.

JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS I AM NOT A SALES AGENT AND IN NO WAY AM I TRYING TO MAKE MONEY DOING THIS. I AM JUST TRYING TO HELP. MY JOB IS SALARY BASED W/ NO COMMISSION. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS. I'M JUST SHARING KNOWLEDGE!

Re: Damn insurance is EXPENSIVE

I don't see how you can say "all" of the info is incorrect. You should have worded yourself better. It is a fact that I pay $130 a month, it is a fact that I am covered if I get hit by an uninsured motorist, etc. As for the mods, it wasn't my agent that I have as of right now that told me, besides that I have the phone call recorded. So if it came down to it and they didn't want to replace the mods then that would be taken to court. I have no ebay mods. Only ebay parts I have are head light bulbs and a window motor.
