Oil Use???

This is the typical Synthetic versus Conventional question as i know the difference but I'm picking up my first Lude in a couple of days and i read that 5W-30 is recommended and i was jsut wondering do most of you stick to this or do you run 10W-30. I've always used 10W-30 in my Teg and was wondering if its ok for Ludes so I thougt I'd ask the pro's. It has been ran with conventional so i will stick with that.

Re: Oil Use???

I use 5W-30 in my 97 non-sh lude (with JDM H22A). I don't use synthetic because I feel safer changing my oil every 3k miles (the engine has 100K on her) and I don't want to pay for synthetic.

Last time I got my oil changed they used 10W-30 and its not the end of the world. Something doesn't seem as smooth but it might just be my head playing tricks on me. Stick with 5W-30 and all should be gravy.

I'm no expert and most of the knowledge I have is learned from this forum and the kid that I bought my lude from. I just wanted to give my input and am curious what the pros have to say about this in more detail.

Re: Oil Use???

Honda recommends 5-30. If it was my lude ... I'd use 5-30.

I use full synthetic and still change my oil every 3k miles.

Re: Oil Use???

if it gets really hot in the summer you could use 10-30 or if you notice you are burning oil you can try. but in the winter stay with manufacturers recommendations.

Re: Oil Use???

Find out if the car ur getting was using synthetic or conventional, if the guy tells u he used synthetic (use synthetic) downgrading would be a mistake on your part. I use 5w-30 synthetic, and if thats what the car takes put nothing but 5w-30.

Re: Oil Use???

Didn't get the car, I noticed a rust on the set rails as well as all the lugs were rusty looking and looklike salt may have changed some of the finish on the metals under the hood. That rust on the seat really turned me off as there shouldnt be any rust inside especially with a clean title.

Re: Oil Use???

Yea thats what I'm thinking also about the water but the car is From PA which isnt prone to floods but it jsut didnt sit well and the seller dropped the price really quick, almost 1300 from asking which may it seem real odd.

Re: Oil Use???

Ya that is weird he dropped the price that fast. Something definitely didn't seem right there. Just for price comparison I got my 97 lude with 150K miles on the chassis for $4k. So far in 6 months I've sunk in another ~$1k replacing parts. I've had the heater hose blow, the crankshaft keyway stripped, and driver's front axle replaced (CV boot popped off) and while my mechanic had the car I had him replace the timing chain and all the belts and hoses for good measure. That's the price of a high performance vehicle though. You gotta pay to play. But coming from an Integra I'm sure you are well aware of that.

Re: Oil Use???

I was able to verify with the dealership that all major service was done at 105K timing belt, valve adjustment, etc. it has 137k on it now. I have a few built mustangs so i understand the performance part or aspect of maintaining any car. The integra and this will jsut be work cars to add miles on. Droppin the price so quick was definitely an odd thing for me. If he drops another grand off--I may jump on it anyway
