HID bulb help ATTN:chris/bmxfreakboy

Ok well chris I know we were talking about this stuff earlier but my AIM was messing up and I had to get to class. So here is what I was going to say.
I also figured other people might have the same question so decided to post it here.

The typical cheap HID kit ($80-120) comes with bulbs that look like these.
They are H1 bulbs

When installing them, use the spring clips on the headlight housing to hold them in... just like the original bulbs. The thing is, the spring clips are too wide to hold the bulb properly. They have to be bent towards eachother a little and down a little as well to secure the bulb properly.

Spring clips open and stock bulbs removed:

Spring clip on HID bulb before being bent... gap is visible not creating strong enough pressure to hold the bulb in securly:

Spring clip after being slightly bent to hold bulb:

im sure there is a much better way of making a little plastic piece to make the spring more effective at holding the HID bulb in place, but Im too lazy to design it right now. Maybe once I run out of money again, Ill design it and sell them on here for a buck or two.

Hope that answers your questions and feel free to ask anything else.

By the way, the bulbs I got from 00preluderacer (or something like that) were equivalent to the same thing you can get on ebay for ~$20 less. They are nothing better. And to be honest, I felt the customer service was terrible... but i finally got the kit a month later. /end rant

Re: HID bulb help ATTN:chris/bmxfreakboy

I did the same exact thing you did, just bending the wire. The only problem I have is that when I see the light reflecting off something while the car is moving, I can slightly see the bulb shake/jitter around. It doesn't matter to me since I don't pay much attention to it.
I read on another forum that some people drill out the stock plastic housing to fit through the hid bulb which will secure it more. The only problem i see happening is if you want to go stock, you will need to shed out some extra cash to buy that plastic piece.
You have good pics, thanks for the info :)

Re: HID bulb help ATTN:chris/bmxfreakboy

i just took strips of aluminum tape and folded them up and layed them between the clip and bulb. works perfectly, no jiggling.
