Which O-Ring?

alright guys, i know that the oil cooler o ring is leaking, but when i looked at that picture my brain fried, i found this under the OIL PUMP selection on Majestic parts and i wanna go into the dealer today and pick one up but i wasn't sure which one, i'm thinking #32?

Nick, help me out before you close this and than you can link people to this when they say they have a bad oil leak

Re: Which O-Ring?

someone with a 5th gen correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure oil cooler #17 is for the SH, and #16 is for the base. right?
so if you have an SH, yea 32 looks correct. but i can't find an o-ring between 16 and the block tho (for a base)

*edit* ahh beat me.

Re: Which O-Ring?

they prolly take the same one since they both use the same mount plate that connects to the block.

o rly they do? #13?

i guess i got confused cuz i keep hearing SH oil filters are in a diff spot, so i figured 17 went onto 13, and 13 onto the block, whereas 16 went straight onto the block.

i'll leave you 5G'ers to help him and i'll stop confusing everyone

Re: Which O-Ring?

i hope you have your crafty 30mm socket, and a little bit of RTV/gasket maker. That o-ring didn't wanna stay in place for me, so I used 3 lil tiny dabs of gasket maker in a triangle shape, then pressed the o-ring in place (which held BEAUTIFULLY) so I could screw the oil cooler back on.
I spent longer messin with the o-ring trying to get it to stay, than i did over the whole job if I would've used the gasket maker in the first place.

This was on my 4th gen....

Re: Which O-Ring?

this happened to me last week i changed #32 it was a bitch doing this in a parking lot by my house in the freezing cold at 11pm at night and i had school the next day. and yeah you need a 30mm socket to get to it. make sure you dry it up real nice other wise every time you try to put the o-ring its gonna pop back out. i got lucky it got stuck in a position that it went right in.

Re: Which O-Ring?

it was part #32
thank god for ye good old honda parts guy!
i noticed a few things when doing this,

for one, the original O-ring doesn't like to retain oil, it is more of a "salami slice" o ring design, not your typical "looks like a tube wrapped in a circle!"

and on my parts sheet it even says that the oring i purchased REPLACES the orig. design from 1997. guess it was one of those parts they had to redesign due to MASSIVE failure among all preludes past about 100k

next, that goddamn oil filter old that releases te oil cooler was a BITCH to get off, thankfully my school shop let me borrow some snapon tools to make the job MUCH easier, but a breaker bar was a must to get that sucker off taking EXTREME care not to **** that thing up!

i lost like less than a 1/4 quart of oil, sweet!

and i reinstalled my Fram filter until an oil change soon, HOPEFULLY she'll stop pissin oil now *crossesfingers*

i also noticed that that stupid o-ring DOESN'T WANNA GET IN IT'S HOME! i ended up putting my arm through a maze of stuff starting from the back of the wheel, through the control arms and than back to that to hold it in and press the plate down while threading in the bolt neck with my right hand, yeah tht was confusing, and took forever to get ****in right!

super thankfully it didn't pinch and im good to go!!

yayyyyyyy OEM PARTS!

Re: Which O-Ring?

wish i woulda taken pictures while i was under there, this mighta been a good sticky thread

OH! by the way...

****Don't remove the hoses on the oil cooler, it is unnecessary and pointless, just put the o-ring on by bending it back a little, WAY too much hassle to remove them!****
