Some Help

Hello I'm new to this forum.
i have a Prelude '98 and i was wondering what would be the best thing to do.
My crankshaft broke and the bolt broke in half. What would be the cost of repair? any suggestion on New crankshafts and gears?

thanks

Re: Some Help

what bolt broke in half??
I understand the crank breaking, but which bolt do you speak of?

If you keep the motor its gonna be costly to repair. Depending on what kinda deals you can get
You'll have to buy a new crankshaft, then drop it and ur motor off to a machine shop so they can inspect the block, then they're gonna have to line bore the block so the new crankshaft fits if it needs to be. Cuz your crank broke for a reason, they don't just snap outa nowhere. Then you're gonna need new bearings, and then it gets reassembled. Then you get to drive it after it goes back into the car.

Re: Some Help

Wow that sucks to hear, sorry for your luck.
You are more than likely gonna have to get a
rebuild or a swap. Either way, it is not going to be
an easy fix. But if you are not going to do any kind
of major engine upgrades, then I would just stick to OEM

Good luck !!!

Re: Some Help

ok so what you are saying is the bolt to the crankshaft pully snaped. If this is the case the crank may still be usable depending on the damage. take a pic so we can further help you out. If the threads got ripped out of the crank it is still usable you just have to have the hole filled with metal and then you can rethread it.or you might be sol we have to see to tell you.

Re: Some Help

The same thing just happened to me today. I stopped by somebody's house for about 30 seconds and when I started the car again it made a weird noise, sort of rattling like a pulley was loose, and shortly after the whole pulley just broke off! My friend said that the bolt just gets loose over time if you don't tighten it enough. But it looks like the whole bolt just broke off, everything else on the crankshaft is whole, the car still starts up, it just doesn't have anything like power steering, the water pump, or the alternator. I think roccity and I are in the same boat.

If you just picture the bolt of this broken off that's what I have. I'll try to get pics tomorrow of it broken.
