Re: a few weeks ago

How DID u see it shooting flames?

my friends 95 integra LS with only intake and full exhaust would shoot flames at high RPM shifting. Its usually just excess fuel that explodes right after the cat and the flame travels through the exhaust.... As long as you're not light your back bumper on fire, or melting it, it shouldn't really be a problem.

Re: a few weeks ago

Well, to be honest, I'm calling

When you shoot flames on gearshift, it's because of the excess fuel that is being pumped through the system when you back out of the throttle, so it doesn't get burned. That's what the flame is - unburned fuel. It's the same when you see the circuit racing cars flame out as they slow up for corners, just unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust system.

While on the street, it's rather common for turbo cars to do it (due to the copius amounts of fuel they inhale when at WOT) for a NA car to pop flames it must have a straight through cat. The cat by definition of the way it works acts as a barrier. And any time raw fuel hits the innards of the cat it destroys them - most cats have ceramic innards. With a test pipe I'd almost believe you, because I"ve seen it done. But with a cat, (unless you've got some serious mods that you aren't telling us about) then I just can't see how it's possible.

This may be dumb, but I am new the the whole prelude thing...How fast can a normal 5th gen go? **** my camaro I had before had a speedo that went to 150 and I pinned that mofo once..I have a 5speed, with greddy exhaust and injen SRI, and I have had her up to 130 easy with RPM to spare..Seemed like it could make it to 140+ no prob

I never shot flames even when I had a test pipe on my 4th gen.
If you were driving an RX7, I wouldn't have a doubt that you're shooting flames.

Re: a few weeks ago

whats the point of topping out your car. The load, and stress put on the engine from running such a high RPM for such an extended period of time isn't exactly a good thing.

For information sake....stock 4th gen h23's with the stock computer top out at 127mph around 5500ish rpm if i remember...

I hope for the safety of everybody around you that youse guys all did these speeds on a closed track. At these speeds the suspension won't have finished reacting to what it needs to before being asked to react to something else, and it doesn't take much for something nasty to happen.

Keep your racing to the track.
