ECU EAT Fuse

Last Sunday while out and about I hit a pothole really hard. as soon as i hit it the RPM's dropped and then jumped right back up. Ok no problem there. But ever since that happened my speedo does not work and VTEC will not fire. Another thing is, when i put my ebrake down the light still stays on but its very dim and then my battery light barely comes on. Anybody got any ideas?

I have already checked every single plug in the car and in the engine bay that I can get my hands on.

Re: Havin some issues. . . .

problem #1: vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is busted. are you getting a CEL?
problem #2: e-brake sensor, under the center console.

well considering my cel is always on due to the trans swap i donno. i will have it checked tomorrow morning.

Re: Havin some issues. . . .

yup, vtec operates off the speed of the engine, speed of the car, as well as other variables, and since your ecu is thinking your car is going 0mph, its not gonna work.

check the CEL codes, pretty sure 17 is for a VSS

maybe the alternator. I would check the belt for proper tension. It almost sounds like there could be an ECU problem too. Probably not, but possibly.

Re: Havin some issues. . . .

Have you checked the main ground wire coming off of the battery? It can come loose where it grounds onto the frame. My Lude was doing the same thing and that was the problem.

Re: Havin some issues. . . .

UPDATE: i went and got a new vss, put it in and nothing. i also took the battery in and had it tested it was bad. thank god it was still under free replacement period so i got a new one for free. i still havent checked the parking brake sensor. if it is bad how will i know?

could this be something more, like a major electrical problem?

Re: Havin some issues. . . .

if the odometer isn't working either, it sounds like its STILL a VSS problem.
are you still getting the VSS CEL?

and did you replace it with a BRAND NEW vss or used??

Re: Havin some issues. . . .

those are still the EXACT symptoms of a busted VSS
no odo or speedo, which in turns causes VTEC not to work. hmmmm.....

was it just the top part of the vss, the electrical part? or the hole assembly that has the gear that goes down into the tranny?

Re: Havin some issues. . . .

well i have an extra manual transmission and i took the gear off of that one and mated it with the new sensor just to make sure and still nothing. i tried every combination of the three sensors and two gears that i have and nothing. thats why it makes me think there is another problem. could the bad alternator cause the speedo not to work, because that was the first thing to go when i was having charging problems on the third gen.

Re: Havin some issues. . . .

usually on most preludes and civics... the pins actually come of the vss plug itself. that is what i would check... make sure the pins are all the way in and are making contact.

Re: Havin some issues. . . .

well for anyone that cares i have isolated the problem i keep popping my ECU EAT fuse. i have found that it controls the VSS, gauge cluster, and charging system along with some other things. i will be tracking down the wire problem throughout the next couple of weeks and will be regularly updating this thread. thanks for everyones input and if anyone has anything else helpful to add than feel free.

Re: Havin some issues. . . .

i have made alot of progress today and narrowed it down to a problem in the oxygen sensors, i will be replacing them today and let you guys know if that fixes it. u dont know how happy i am right now to actually narrow it down to one certain thing.

and can one of you guys change the title of this thread to ECU EAT Fuse

Re: ECU EAT Fuse

Hopefully it is just the o2 sensor and not something bigger. You can change that fairly easily.
Thread title changed as requested.
