ebay exhaust..

Well i have searched for the answer to my question, but all i found was a post sayin stay away from ebay? I've got tons of stuff off ebay... like head lights, turn sigs, side markers, grill, tail lights, 4" cowl hood, shaved door kit all for my s10. there all in great shape (a.k.a. brand new!!!) and all of them are like hundreds cheaper than buying it from a store or website... i could list prices but i dont feel like it...sorry.

im just wondering if anyone else has bought any part of there exhaust off of ebay.. i got a header that was for a base... lol and i didnt know at the time i had a sh and thought it was a base.... but that was like when i first got my lude and the sh decal had been removed... so i learned that my lude was a sh the hard way... and thanks to PZ.com i've learned alot bout my lude, and hope to learn even more.

Ok... why do y'all think ebay is so bad? i want a name brand like greedy but i dont have 500 bucks to fork over for just a catback... like with ebay i could get new clear turn signals, clear sides markers, projector head lights & full exhaust (header, hiflow cat, N1 "style" catback) all for like 450? i added the prices with shipping already....

so if anyone has any good advice bout ebay... meaning you've dealt with it.. please post away...

Re: ebay exhaust..

It comes back to you get what you pay for mate. A no-name exhaust might look real shiney and nice when new, but it has been found that they use cheap steel (so rust is a problem) and the welds are well below par. And in some cases, I've heard of parts that were specifically designed for a certain model vehicle just not fitting.

We all like to save money where possible, and I agree with you that in many cases the so called brand name parts are a tad expensive. However you gotta pay to play as E would say, and as far as I'm concerned, the only way to do anything is to do it right the first time.

You may get lucky with ebay gear and find some good stuff at cheap prices. And like I said, nobody wants to spend more than they have to. Howerver I just haven't heard that many happy endings when it comes to parts such as exhausts.

Re: ebay exhaust..

theres a 50/50 chance with ebay, if anything you want to save money? then buy it and tell us how it sounds..i dont i ever read here someone actually bought a whole catback from ebay, other then obx twinloop on preludeonline. if your buying a whole catback..it may sound good since your not cutting a pasting a mufler on stock piping.

but also........instead of getting a brand name catback, why not buy an apexi universal muffler, or hks, and having custom 2.25" piping. 180 in total. 80 for the muffler...100 for the piping to be made at a shop. (ballpark prices)

Re: ebay exhaust..

i actually bought my full exhaust on ebay lol...i got a brand new Ractive header for 75, obx high flow cat for 140, no name catback for 130 (just wanted the piping with flanges on it already and already bent to fit my car), and a skunk2 muffler to replace the muffler on the no-name catback for 150.

Re: ebay exhaust..

you can get good stuff on ebay, you just have to know what you are looking at and pay attn to the details. but for exhaust and important parts of the car i would stay away from no name stuff. i paid 500 bucks for my catback and have had it on my car for 3 yrs with no complaints at all. all of the welds have held up fantastically, and my exhaust drags cuz its so low!

Re: ebay exhaust..

lol, i got my exhaust off ebay and sounds fine. my buddy got his exhaust off ebay for like 125 for an integra, and it sounds fine. but becarefull when those cool race car drivers ask you what kind of exhaust you got and you tell them ebay. their just gonna make fun of you cuz its from ebay and only real race car drivers have super expensive exhaust. + make sure what you buy isnt going to rust. then we'd just laugh at you

U get what ya pay for. But u might luck up and find a "good" exhaust that wont rust but those exhaust are cheaper for a reason (prob cheaper material used)

Re: ebay exhaust..

I bought an obx n1 muffler for my integra...seemed fine to me. As long as you get a good/decent brand name on ebay, then you should be fine. Just dont get those individual muffler makers that have crappy feedback.

Re: ebay exhaust..

I had the "N1 Style" catback exhaust on my accord that I paid all of $180 for from Ebay. It was good quality T304 stainless steel and fit perfectly, and looked great...The only problem...Loudest exhaust I've ever heard. It gave a new definition to rice. It was deep sounding but also very very raspy. I would see about some sound clips to make sure you are getting the one with a sound YOU like.

well i mean it cant be louder than my exhaust was... its only a header and a cat... no pipes after that... so my exhaust ends underneth my shifter... i guess...

Re: ebay exhaust..

well.....2yrs ago got a "noname" exhaust for my 1st civic.....lmao took it to a shop and the guy told me i got jippt cuz the material was un-weldable

learned my lesson...research before you hand over cash

eventually the guy made it work but he also specified that the kind of exhaust i had gotten wasnt really for my car....ebay seller stated that it was.....but oh well it was a mistake

unless the guy was dumb... never heard of a metal thats un-weldable... unless you got a aluminum. but that only requires a special welder... but i highly doubt that the exhaust was unweldable. he might of tried to weld with the power too high... hmmmm.... either you got jipt by the ebay seller or the shop guy... im thinking the shop guy... did he charge you extra to get it working?
