Bad ignition key cylinder

When I put the key in it will only turn enough to unlock the wheel.
It wont go past that.
Wont start wont go to acc.

Ive tried moving the wheel, the shift knob.

Um. I tried having a new key made.

I checked my cars vin for the recall.

And I was wondering is my problem covered by the recall??

what would one of you guys do if this happend.

In mind I just got the car last week and it ran fine just started doing this on a cold sunday morning =[

Re: Bad ignition key cylinder

i have had a similiar problem. i put the key in and try to turn and it goes nowhere. i'll pull it out and put it back in a couple times and eventually it'll turn. once i get it to turn that first time it's fine. it seems like it's just a matter of finding that "sweet spot" to get it to turn the first time.

Re: Bad ignition key cylinder

there was a recall on the ignition cyls on our cars, you can call honda and give them your vin and they can tell you more.

Re: Bad ignition key cylinder

Ive called the dealer about the recall a few times.
Im not 100precent sure that the recall is whats wrong with my car.
They told me my vin is in the recall tho.

I just have to get the money to tow it up to the dealer.

I just hope thats really the only thing i have to pay for.

Re: Bad ignition key cylinder

Ok so I have a 97 ignition i got off ebay.
And i took 2 of the 3 wires off my 98 one. I left the wire of that reads the key.
Then i put the 2 other wires in the 97 one. Put both keys in turned the 98 as far as it could go to unlock the wheel. Then turned the 97 one and it cranked the car up!!!!!!!!!

Saved me a tow fee.

Re: Bad ignition key cylinder

I have a 98 lude and the same thing happened 2 mine. I bought the new ignition up at the honda dealer and it cost me 500 dollars. I put it in and then the car wouldnt start with the keys they gave me. Well i called the dealership back and they said i had 2 get the key programmed for the car. And it would cost 100 more dollars! Well my grandpa started messing with the old ignition and sprayed some wd40 into the key cylinder. Its been working fine ever since then and its been about 2 months since that happened. I eventually took the part back and got most of my money back.....restocking fee. But i really hope this helps. Sorry for the long reply. Lol. Good luck!!!

Re: Bad ignition key cylinder

Hmmm..... that didint work....well i dont really know what 2 say after that. Im pretty sure all my grandpa did was spray the wd40 cos i was messing with all the wiring when he done it. I dont know what 2 tell ya because the only other thing i could think of besides that graphite stuff is 2 buy the ignition. It sucks but if ya gotta do it....ya gotta do it bro
