exhaust with a cut out?

well awhile back when i bought a header for my car and the guy sent my a base model header... which is like 6" shorter than it should be... and well i was thinking or installing a cut out in that space... instead of just wielding in a regular pipe to extend it to the cat or resonator... any one done this? i know i got uber amounts of extra hp when i ran just the header.. but it gave me a head ache with all the noise.... so i would like the best of both worlds.... Super quiet exhaust for daily driving... THEN SUPER LOUD BLOW YOUR A$$ AWAY EXHAUST for the strip... or just to taunt people...

but any info or what ever is appreciated... im going to have a lot of time to do some extra work on it and finish some old projects since i have to save up for my swap...

Re: exhaust with a cut out?

do it right the first time. have a new pipe welded in for you.

but what you should really do is a collector mod...

you chop the header at the down pipe where it goes from 2 pipes to 1, you weld in a 2.5" flex pipe, add a test pipe or hi flow cat and a 2.5" cat back exhaust system and bam! you just opened up the air flow so much more and you will def feel a difference.

Re: exhaust with a cut out?

well thats a good idea... but do yall know if the cutout would leak? most people say they will, but none of them have actually seen one leak or heard one leak..
and ive heard a prelude with header, cat, test pipe, stock muff and it sounded like crap... thats just me...

i'm a good wielder and i was going to make flanges so it will just bolt in... only minor wielding... so i wouldnt have to worry bout leaky wields... and it will hopefully look sweet when its on lifts...

oh... and i dont really want to buy a exhaust at this time... the exhaust i want is a little to much for me... and i dont have a job at the time... just working for my dad fixing his trucks and stuff is my only real income right now... lol... F**kin economy....

why don't you just by a nice muffler and weld up a custom exhaust??? esp since you seem to be able to do it yourself

Re: exhaust with a cut out?

you should just weld in a piece to make up the difference and be done with it.

Re: exhaust with a cut out?

I was going to do this when I was planning a turbo setup, but never ended up with it. Still have the cutout if you want it
