idle problem

ok i figured my iac was either dirty or needed replacing so i cleaned it the first time and that was a no go so i replaced it and i still have the same problem it revs up and down to as high as 3k w/out me touching the gas so if anyone has any idea what i should look for or replace ur opinion would be great...thnx

check your thermostat...it could have been a fluke, but my kind of a buddy bought a civic with the same problem. He replaced the thermostat (it was stuck closed) and it solved his over heating problem + the idle problem lol.

There are SO MANY Variables in our car that can cause the idle to fluctuate....

Pulll the clock fuse for 10 mins. Or unplug the battery for 10.

i disconnected the battery the positive side for 11 mins and it didnt work am i supose to disconnect both pos and neg and also if that didnt work should i try taking out the clock fuse for 10 mins or not and i am looking at that peice below the hose like it says in that link what am i supose to look for

the link up there said to follow that hose from the black box to the throttle body and so on so i took off teh peice it said to and teh big plastic screw thing in it was backed out and i screwed it back in

its the fast idle valve under the throttle body.the one that doesnt have a sensor on it.i had the same problem,i was gona buy a new idle air control valve wich is mounted on the IM but i didnt wanna spend $280 bucks so i found out that FIV is cloged up and that makes the IACV to go off.Im buying a bigger throttle body to get rid of fast idle valve.Clean the fast idle valve and you should be fine.
