NEW project

Hey guys, I like to share my project with you guys,
I started this project over the winter break and im currently still working on it. The idea came to me when I was working on a police interceptor. As I was replacing the belt I noticed that both alternator and power steering had a magnetic clutch on their pulleys, (like ones in compressors), later that day I had a chance to speak to a officer and he told me that the clutches are used to shut the power steering and the alternator in WOT( wide open throttle) giving the engine more power to speed up.
That night I thought of doing this to my car, the more I researched it the easier it seemed to be. So the next day I started the project, I had a spare alt and PS laying around from my old 5gen in my garage. My dads friend owns a shop, and he was able to weld the compressor clutch bearing to the alt shaft. I currently have the alt in the car running, I was able to wiring a switch and mount it under the gas pedal, so far it works great, when the car is not in WOT clutch spins the alt, and when I floor it the clutch disengage and lets the belt run freely. I will be doing a DIY on this project soon as I get my camera working again, and hopefully get you guys a dyno and see the difference.

Re: NEW project

Welcome mate. I read about somebody doing this a little while ago on another board...I"ll see if I can find it a little later...

After it was all installed and done, he didn't notice much of a gain. Turns out that the power steering pump doesn't take much power when you're not turning the steering wheel, the a/c freewheels when it's not switched on and the alternator didn't pose much resistance at all.

Re: NEW project

that is true, i haven't noticed any difference from the setup, im guessing max hp of maybe 5 or 6, but what are your thoughts about water-methanol injection, cause currently i have the system setup and i have noticed a big difference, i know there are some disadvantages like seizing your engine, but i have it setup to where only injects in wot, thats the only time a water should be injected. what do you think is it safe?:noidea:

Re: NEW project

Water/methonol injection is a seperate matter all together, and one personally I don't touch with a 10-foot pole.
