Hole under the hood.

I am trying to find a 5th gen prelude and I found one that I really liked. I started looking around it and saw that it had a hole under the what would be breather box (it had an AEM cold air intake). I was wondering what it was for. It looked like who ever had it before had bent it out more to "fit" something into it. I was thinking that it could have been a turbo or something but I'm still in the blue. I asked the sales person and he is so clueless about the car. Any info or input would help.

Re: Hole under the hood.

First off welcome to the site. As soon as you reach the requirements post pics of your lude and the area of the car you are talking about. If you talking about the hole by the battery then that is wear your stock intake setup goes. The AEM intake could not fit in there so you had to do a little custom work to make it fit in there. (Well mine did) Depending on how that person did it may look bad or clean. Def show us a pic so we can better help you. Hoped I helped.

Re: Hole under the hood.

Ok I will try and grab some pics of it. I will not be purchasing it though because of some complications with the dealer dealing with water in the trunk. I was just curious about the hole because I'm the kind of person who likes to know things. I am still looking for my official "first" car which hopefully will be a lude. I just love how they look and run.

Edit:
I wanted to further my explanation of water in the trunk. After a heavy rain I went to inspect the car and saw that there was over a gallon of water in the trunk under the spare tire and I could not find were the water had come from. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have any feedback on this?

Re: Hole under the hood.

I've seen the water in the trunk before...I think it has something to do with the tail light seals or some kinda chit. But the hole in the engine bay is where the stock intake gets its air from...The only way to use that is to get a true cold air intake...otherwise, as with a Short Ram or otherwise, the hole will remain there. Don't worry, the fender well will do its job and keep water from your filter.

Oh wait...you didn't get it. Dang.

Re: Hole under the hood.

one way to find out where the water is coming from exactly is to have a friend sit in the trunk with it closed and a flashlight. and take a garden hose and pour water all over the trunk. and where ever it leaks in is your problem. if it is in fact coming from the tail light seals, which is pretty typical, you'd have to pull the trunk carpeting around the tail lights to see it. otherwise the only other place would be from the seal that goes around the whole opening of the trunk.

Re: Hole under the hood.

Depends on where the water is also, if its in the bottom under the spare tire I have heard of old worn rear side glass gaskets. Leaks there down under neath the rear seat then when you accelerate it sloshes back into the trunk and spare tire area.

I've also heard some people having sunroof/ moonroof problems

and another problem I have heard about was the design of the rear glass something about the top corners vibrating causing the gasket to wear prematurely and leak.

I wish I remember where I read about these.

try this site I think somewhere on here is where I found that.

http://consumerguideauto.howstuffwor...da-prelude.htm

This is another interesting fact I found not related to this but important none the less.

An SH averaged only 19.4 mpg, though a base car with automatic got a more appealing 23.2 mpg.

I have seen guys posting on here they get better than 23.2 so I have to say B.S. here

that was copy and pasted from Consummer Reports

Re: Hole under the hood.

Thats crazy they must have fudged the number or they kept it in VTEC all the time.

Havn't seen you on the forums in a while whats new?

You know I still havn't got that clutch and flywheel installed yet, Plus now I need a timing belt, water pump, etc. job done. So I might as well pull the head and do some other work I've been planning too bad you don't still have the Skunk 2 valvetrain set up.

I have decided to go NA, with some Type S pistons still have much to buy and much to learn.
