Help! Noise coming from engine

For some reason my car is making this kind of loud bird chirping noise coming from near the timing belt. It has been doing this for quite some time now and I am not sure what it is. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thnx

Worst case, this could be a failing timing belt autotensioner. These are know to fail on the H22. You might want to get this checked out promptly. Does the sound change when you rev your engine?

The sound does change (speeds up a little, sometimes goes away) but i had this tensioner changed twice in 2 years. once for the timing belt and another for some type of oil leak near the timing belt

Re: Help! Noise coming from engine

look at where the alternator belt goes past the timing cover and see if it is rubbing into it... that for some reason happens alot if the timing cover does not fit back on perfect... it happened to mine when i changed timing belts

Re: Help! Noise coming from engine

Very new to the forum and Preludes. Pretty sure I have the same noise with my '00. Funny thing is the timing belt and tensioner were replaced before I bought the thing. I'll have to look into this. Glad I read this thread. I thought maybe it was just how the thing sounds since my old Accord also made alot of noise when idling etc. Has anyone ever heard of this symptom leading to a catostrophic failure?

Re: Help! Noise coming from engine

Yeah that timing belt cover is a pain, its a two piece type deal and if it is not fit back into place the lower half will stick out and may rub the other belts. Thats what I would check first.
