3rd and 4th gear resistance

3rd gear has some resistance, also crunching sound if higher revs when going in. 4th gear has less resistance, but car jerks slightly since their is a delay.

Are my synchros worn or is it something else like a shift fork.

Also, my clutch squeaks after driving for a while. Could this be related to the issue?

Thanks.

Will probably get my car checked out soon just wanted to see what ppl thought.

Re: 3rd and 4th gear resistance

Sounds like worn/wearing synchros for sure. Tranny rebuild ftw.

Re: 3rd and 4th gear resistance

Yeah I guess you could change your fluid first, unless you know for sure it's good, then don't waste the money. Sand in the gearbox ftl.

Re: 3rd and 4th gear resistance

I don't think so. If that was the case you would just lose pressure in the clutch. I think.

$h!t yeah that will do it. Think about it. What your syncrows (mechanic not a speller) do is stop your input shaft from turning so it will slide to the next gear with out grinding. If you clutch isn't completely disengageing then your input shaft is gunna still be tryin to turn and it will grind.

Re: 3rd and 4th gear resistance

Yeah I guess you're right. Might as well test your master cylinder for leaks when you a get a chance before you do anything else.

Re: 3rd and 4th gear resistance

Well, I found out I was leaking hydraulic fluid. So I'm seeing if the gear resistance issue could be related.

Re: 3rd and 4th gear resistance

SYNCROS!!! My 4th gen did it but only shifting into second and third at high RPM...My h22 grinds sometimes only when I shift into 5th, you think this is a synro too? I thought maybe not since 5th is the least used gear...

Re: 3rd and 4th gear resistance

Does it do it all the time in 5th? Mine does it, but only when I nail it through 2nd and 3rd gear, then try shifting into 5th at a high rpm.

get new cables....it's usually the culprit. I have 4th gen cables for sale with a forbidden short shifter in it. It's a direct swap...
