WINTER IS IN TOWN!!

whats up my fellow luder's...
anyways I just wanted to know who is driving their prelude in the winter??
The reason is I need to drive mine and i got a 1500km roadtrip after christmas and I do not have winter tires!! I live in Toronto but driving to Thunder Bay. I needed my dads pickup truck for the last couple months and I gave him a taste of the prelude but the truck just goes through gas tanks like nothing.
My question is what tires should I get??? oh and trust me I enjoy the challenge of winter driving -- just need a set of good tires

Re: WINTER IS IN TOWN!!

Do you have a 4G or 5G? I know for my OEM Sawblades on my 4G, the only winter tire option I have is Dunlop Graspics. They are pretty good, they haven't let me down yet. If you have the option though, I don't think Blizzak's can be beat.

I drive mine in winter all the time. But that doesn't help you, since the only change I make is I keep the windows closed.

Re: WINTER IS IN TOWN!!

Ill be driving mine in the winter. I JUST got new tires for the stock wheels this past weekend. They are Kunho all seasons and it is snowing today, so the drive home will be the first test in the snow.
Cincinnati has about an inch so far... we are supposed to have 2 by the end of the work day.
To help your engine last a little longer, it helps to let it idle a few seconds longer in the winter before driving off. I start my car, then wait about 30 seconds or so. I read somewhere that the extra 15/30 seconds every day can add thousands of miles to your engine's overall life.

Please tell me you're not talking about the ASX's? lol that would be horrible...

I let my car warm up for at least 5 minutes before I drive it in the winter.

Oh no! I do have Kumho ASX's

Whats horrible about them? I came home from school last weekend and my dad said they were an early christmas present because it was going to snow before christmas.

How bad are they?

I only plan on using them during the winter and possibly a little into spring.

Re: WINTER IS IN TOWN!!

I drive my 5G stick in the winter too... Theres about 2 inches near Seattle so far, and were expecting 4-8 tonight and again tomorrow. All I use are the les schwab brand all season tires that came on my lude when I bought it, and they do just fine. Just dont drive like an a$$ and stay back from people.. and to the guy above, I drive up boardin in my lude with no probs, but if my buddy with the turbo passat is coming, his car handles way better so I make him drive...

Re: WINTER IS IN TOWN!!

I have 2 winters worth of experience with the ASX's, and they were god aweful, even on tightly packed snow, lightly dusted roads, and they sucked when the roads were just wet.

chains arent meant for these cars and vise versa lol

imo the roof rack looks hot on a 4th gen

youd be alright to bring it snowboarding; more often then not the roads are clear.

Re: WINTER IS IN TOWN!!

Hey theredulude,

Im in mississauga. I had next to no traction on the very fist snowfall, but for the storm we had friday I had my winter rims with what I think are all seasons. And its all fun and games, but now I can at least maintain traction :D But damn I think im gonna have to install a drain in my garage and install an automatic washing system. My car was black, but right now i'd say its 2 tone, white on the bottom black on the roof.

ha it was pretty bad in the GTA, i took my prelude out 2 days after that snowfall and streets looked okay to drive but the lude was still having trouble driving with summer tires. Thats why shes staying in the garage but next year i'll hook up a nice winter set.=)

They are called summer tires for a reason dood. lol

I think that roof-rack on the DC2's looks hot, I'd imagine it would look pretty good on a 4G.
