Red Key/Master Key/Transponder/WTF?!

Alright, I searched this, read the threads, and haven't gotten a definitive answer yet.
Google was no help, either.

I bet you can guess the dilemma.

I lost my keys.
I have the red "learning/code" key, and I took it to Honda, but they say I need all three new keys, and that they can't program a new chipped key without ordering the immobilizer system and all of that crap.

BUT
the dealership i talked to in Albuquerque says it'll only cost me $45 dollars, as opposed to the $350 they're quoting in town, so I'm going to tow my car down there on Saturday.

My question is, what's the procedure, the REAL procedure, and what's a bunch of malarky? I'm really in no position to get screwed right now, money is so goddamn tight I can hear my wallet squeak when I open it.

I've read that third party locksmiths occasionally have the gear to code the new key with just the red key. That's what I'm hoping for right now.

Does anyone know for sure?

oh, recap.
I have the red key.
I have another black key that doesn't start the car.
I know the immobilizer isn't malfunctioning because I just ****ing replaced it like two months ago when I lost my keys the last time.

I thought the whole point of having a red key was that it held the code, and you could use it to make more keys.

Wtf?

Re: Red Key/Master Key/Transponder/WTF?!

Heres what you can do.

Buy some transponder keys off ebay, go get them cut (using the red key as the master).

Go to honda with the new cut keys and tell them you want them programmed. they gave me a price of $103 (CAD) for up to 3 keys. Meaning, 1 key = 103, 2 = 103, 3 = 103.. 4. I dont know.

Just to clerify, 3 keys for the price at 103 in total. not each.

I was going to do that, but the guy at canadian tire ****ed the cut on one of the keys, so im not gonna go to honda with just 1 key to program.

the keys on ebay were 30 bucks or so.

They're telling me I need to get a new immobilizer though, which is a hefty price, I was just wondering if they're lying or not.

Thanks for the input though, it helps.
