Coil Overs - Need Suggestions

Hey Guys

Christmas is around the corner and I'm thinking of buying myself a little gift. COILS! As you may know, my car is nearly 100% stock and it's my first so I have no idea what to look for when buying coil overs. Basically I'm looking for something that can handle horrific roads (Quebec,Canada :S), I don't need anything for racing or serious driving. Something that looks good and can handle rough roads would be amazing. List your fave's aswell!

Re: Coil Overs - Need Suggestions

a good set of coilovers would be Ground Controls. Be sure to purchase a set of good shocks as well. I have GC with KYB AGX's on my daily driver and it feels great. I've had them on for about 5 years now with no problems. On my Right Hand Drive Prelude, I have Skunk 2 w/Koni Yellow's and that also rides pretty smooth, but I don't drive that car too often since it doesn't have any tags on it yet

Re: Coil Overs - Need Suggestions

are coil overs required to have shocks as well? I thought coils just dropped the car and did the work of the shocks too? and can I hope to get something of quality in the 400-700 dollar price range...like i said i don't need something for racing.

Re: Coil Overs - Need Suggestions

D2 suspension all the way no question. They run about $750-800 on ebay. 36-way adjustable dampening with at least 0"-3.5" drop range. The accord has 0-4.5" but i think it is like 3.5" or 4" on preludes. Ride height is separate from dampening so no matter how high or low your height, the performance of the shocks won't change. I have had the Teins as well but I actually like the D2s way better and they were a lot cheaper. Just my .02 but everyone that I know that has had them feels the same way. Also, very good customer service for whatever that is worth.

Generally they're a plug and play affair - the spring is already mounted on the shock. However in the case of Ground Control, s2, etc it's just a coilover sleeve, and a shock is still required.

This would be the first good thing I've read EVER about the D2 gear. All those who have tried it (that I have read accounts from anyway) have had the same complaints, rediculously harsh and bouncy ride and suspect build quality.

really??? I loved them! Me and some friends went in and made a bulk purchase and we were all really pleased. The only thing i would say is that they are a bit bouncy but it's not a harsh bounce at all. overall..smooth sailing. They are so adjustable though it's possible some reviews were based on bad tuning?

Re: Coil Overs - Need Suggestions

for just daily driving and some fun time i love my tein basics. they were like 860 on ebay. pretty simple to do. i did mine by myself. the ride quality is the tits. gets a lil bouncy on bumpy roads but handles like its on rails. i got 205/17/45 and they let me drop it to a height that looks just right. i say tein, but then again im a little biased. i like the shockman.

Re: Coil Overs - Need Suggestions

From what I have read (and I've read just about every thread there is on the subject) nearly 90% of the serious Preludes on the Auto-X circuit in the US run an adjustable shock (like a Koni Yellow, KYB AGX or Tockco) with the Ground Control sleeves. This includes a lot of guys with dedicated track cars, ie full weight reduction, body stiffening, etc.

Now personally, when I buy my suspension when the AU$ gains some ground, I'll be going down this route as well.

It all basically comes down to what you want the car to be used for.
