Running WAY Rich

alright, so i had to replace my cat awhile back (couple months ago), went with the Random Tech high flow cat, and a new forward O2 sensor bc that was bad as well. Replaced the stock header with a Megan one at the same time. My questions is this: now my car is running way too rich, why??? and how do i fix it? I mean way to rich, like when i accelerate worth anything I'm putting out black smoke, and my exhuast tip is becoming embarrassingly black... help?

Re: Running WAY Rich

We run rich anyways, I would say you can try to reset the ECU, there is a fuse you can remove (forget which one) or disconnect the battery for a few minutes. I'm not too sure but I know the OBDII is a learning ECU, could be that it was used to running with a faulty O2 sensor, might just need a reboot to get you back to where you need to be.

Re: Running WAY Rich

Rob is right - just disconnect the negative of the battery for 3-4 minutes and put it back on, then go back out and drive around like you normally drive - take it thru the city AND onto the highway, just make a road trip out of it. The ECU will then "learn" your driving habits and will adjust for it and there ya go! You will always have black smoke tho - the pains of the Prelude - but if you want to go as far as getting a tune you can always do that too

Re: Running WAY Rich

ya, tried that already... when i got the stuff installed, that's the first thing i did so it would learn the new system. and like i said, it's been a couple months, of driving both around town and on the highway.. and it's still running rich. so the only thing left is an engine tune?? or is there something else to do?

Re: Running WAY Rich

I would say if your that worried about it you can always check everything with the fuel system to make sure nothing is fouled or oiled or anything like that.

If everything is looking good, then I would go with a tune

Personally - I would go with a tune anyways, but if you don't wannt go that route just give you fuel system a good look over

Re: Running WAY Rich

Don't know about tuning a stock Honda ECU OBDII, what kind of O2 sensor did you go with OEM replacement type or universal?
