turbo lude?

Alright guys. I know a lil about cars but not a whole lot. Anywayz, i have a 98 prelude with 105,xxx miles on it. It still runs fine and everything. I've been thinkin about turbochargin it but i know the h22's have the crappy fiber reinforced sleeves. My internals are all stock and im wondering, if i turbo'd it but ran low boost....like 6psi, would that be a good idea or no? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: turbo lude?

With type S pistons and a sleeved block you could boost all day at a higher PSI (=

Re: turbo lude?

For the record, the sleeves in the H22 were originally designed for the NSX. they are far from "crappy" the stock internals can handle 6 psi pretty painlessly.

Re: turbo lude?

depends of how good the engine. If ya keep it at 6psi and don't run the piss out of it all the time ya should be ok. Do ya plane on building it latter for more boost or just leve it at 6 or so

Re: turbo lude?

Before attempting any boost build, it's important to do two things:

-Have everything on the car tested properly. Your 105k old fuel pump might be happy supplying fuel to a stocker engine, but might have a heart attack and keel over at the thought of supplying fuel to a boosted beast.

-Search the forums, as many have built low boost applications and run almost totally stock engines with no worries.

Re: turbo lude?

Ok. Well my friend has been telling me that the sleeves are crappy but i just think he dont want my car 2 be faster than his. Lol. But i really appreciate everybody's help. I'm still learning on a few things......especially turbos. But 2 answer yogi's question....yes a little later on i was planning on building the internals more.

Re: turbo lude?

Well with that said, I think it might be worth re-sleeving the engine, that way when you wanna increase the boost you won't have to worry about pushing the limits of your engine (at least not with something halfway-sane )

And you can probably run 7psi safely on stock internals, but I wouldn't push it.

The fact this kid is suggesting using Type S pistons with a sleeved block worries me. The compression ratio actually makes me smile.

Sleeves aren't crappy you just can't do forged pistons.

yeah a good tune is very important too even running at low boost at least from what I have learned about going turbo.

My block is not sleeved. I didn't feel like folking over the money for it. I have a borg warner gm5 turbo it's like a t3/t4. For the install/tune and other parts I spent about 8-9k total. My car runs great and I still get 28mpg. I believe when you go boost you just get lucky sometimes. Don't cheap out on parts. If you are able to get a equal length mani, get it. They are 10 times better than they log styles.

yea i agree cuz type s pistons have higher compression than stock only thing i would worry about is shooting a rod out the side of the block but honda bottom ends could only hold so much

Oh Come on Tommy......What do you know about boosting a Lude?
HA HA HA. I know it is more than me. I have seen your beast in action, so if anyone on this site knows about boosting Ludes....It Is Indeed This Guy.

I mean come on what is the point of a h22 swapped 3rd gen with almost 700hp? Anyone, anyone !!!
