Thomas97's restoration project

Okay so i've been hiding this away from everyone because i wasn't sure about alot of things, but now i am! so i've got alot to tell.

about two weeks ago i did something stupid and dropped my upper plenum of my intake manifold. the worst happened and it cracked. because i'm picky i couldn't have any cracks and i feared the worst.

in anycase i bought a whole new intake to get down and dirty with restoring one. i have done most of the work myself. let the pictures do the talking.






  • regrind on all runners and TB opening
  • IAB flappers removed
  • Sandblasted entirely.
  • Diegrind on all flat gasket surfaces
again all work was done by me and only me.
here's what she looked like before. talk about a diamond in the rough...



Edit;
I do have a couple questions that don't really mean much, but if you look to the right of where the IACV goes, there's a plate that basically just blocks off coolant? what's that do?

also this one has 4 studs for the TB rather than 2 studs with two holes for bolts, not a biggie at all.

and finally the EGR ports have a metal covering them unlike my 97 intake manifold where the ports are not covered and you can replace the port caps. help?

i've come to beleive that this is a 96 intake contrary to the advertisement that it was a 97 intakemanifold. it should work just fine with no emissional problems correct?

wow very very very good job cleanin up that IM.

That looks better than new. Any reason why you really want the PGM-FI sticker? It probably looks cleaner without.

Thanks! Us Hoffman Auto club guys have taken a real keen eye to this project and has had nothing but good feedback from out teacher. For the grinding on the ports i was able to use a micrometer to make sure i wasn't going out of round. i'm going to finnish sandblasting and then gind the surfaces. wait to get a hondata IMgasket and salp her on!

Thanks!, we were pretty supprised outselves when we did it.
i want the PGM-FI sticker because that will make it look like i'm a noob who doesn't know anythign about it his car, who wants to know i ported .5mm and removed the IAB's!

but keepin mind that your old h23 IM (granted you have it still) won't fit your h22's bolt pattern bro. so its p13 of bust!

I'll sell you the PGM-FI sticker off my new intake mani! Looks real good though man, I was just gonna get work done on my IM for my build, but for the gains you get with the Euro-R, I think it's worth the $350. If you want my extra IM so you can do another one and sell it, PM me so I can get you pics and settle on a price.

nice work... did u see the write up on polishing these? u should try that next on something smaller that has less shape i'd be ineterested to see.. it would look verrrry nice..again good work..

I noticed on my swap, that the obd1 h22a IM had the 2 bolts/2 studs. My 93h23a1 has the 4 studs. I'm not sure what year my h22a though is, so that's all the info I have.

But you say the h23 IM won't fit the h22 head? I thought they could be swapped out...

Why the long face? You should just keep buying cheap H22 IM's and keep doing this and make yourself some extra money. If I had your skills I would definitely do that.
