CEL question

i pulled the code using that paper clip trick using the service wire under the dash.

i got code 67 which is P0420. now im curious if i have a bad secondary o2 sensory or even a bad cat. i recently washed my engine and messed up by getting water in the spark plug wells. changed out the spark plugs and wires, then the CEL came on. I'm wondering if the water may have messed anything up. i feel doubtful about it being a bad cat or o2 sensor because water couldn't have gotten down there.

could it be anything with my spark plugs? any suggestions>? thanks

Re: CEL question

I doubt the water did anything but maybe flush some carbon off. Might have done a little good. So you never got this code until after you did this? I'm not too sure how sensitive those sensors are by that I mean anything could happen like your fuel burnt a little different and you got a little better or worse fuel air fixture and when that fired and came out the exhaust it showed on the CPU and it threw a code. Something might be wrong and doing the washing and getting water down into the spark plug holes might just be a coincidence. But have you tried to clear the code and see if it comes back?

Re: CEL question

It's possible that the two events are unrelated. And you may have just got a code for a "slow" O2 sensor. Not meaning that it's dead, but on the way out.
