A few n00b Qs

Hey Gang, new to the site, and have been doing some reading but have not come across answers to a few questions I have. Maybe you can help me out before I buy a 2001 Prelude.

1. What models come with the factory "ground effects" kit that I see on some of the cars?
2. I see that Timing belts and waterpumps need to be replaced, generally speaking. What does this usually cost, on average?
3. What is considered "low" mileage for a 2001 Prelude?
4. I'm worried about getting one that has been driven hard. I'm avoiding ones with obvious mods done by the owner, but what else to look for that wont be so obvious?

Thanks!
Rob

1. The OEM lip kit was an option. No single model came with them. You can buy them online new or used.

2. It was $325 for me but it depends on where you live and who does it. It can be up to $1000.

3. I saw one not too long ago with around 40K on an 01, but you'd be doing goo to get one around 60K.

4. Tire wear, oil condition, curb rash on the wheels, make sure it shifts smoothly, and a compression check.

also check to see if there are dead spots in the body panels, this will usually tip u off for hiden body damage, and make sure when u test drive the bitch, to do everything you can think of to it, to sniff out problems like a K-9

also look underneath and check for oil leaks, or any kind of leaks. also make sure everything feels real smooth when you drive it: as mentioned the clutch and shifting plus your vtec crossover.

cocaine is only a problem with the 4th gens tho, the long dash makes a great place to do a line.

Re: A few n00b Qs

Thanks for all the great feedback guys! Two more questions:

1. what kind of gas mileage do you observe on average?
2. Can you use Regular gas or does it have to be premium?

1)about 500km on a tank
2) PREMIUM ONLY. (Shell V-Power is the Sh*t)
Premeium is better for you car and helps to prevent alot of problems. Genrally speaking its only about $5-10 more to fill up premium vs regular. Pay the extra money its worth it in the long run.

Plus I find premium gives you a better punch than regular

Re: A few n00b Qs

I get about 350 miles per tanks. And yes, since it's an H22, it requires that you use Premium (91+ Octane). And I know it only costs me about $3 more to fill up with Premium than it would with Regular. But either way, like pfeifer said, it's worth it.

haha no no. I was just trying to clarify the mileage and price difference. i live in Canada so gas is about $1.30/liter so thats what the huge price difference is. Its stupid because for the most part we make the gas you use but our gas is way more expensive. I'm not trying to be racist in anyway just trying to clarify the differences due to miles/kilometers, and the American gas price/ Canadian gas price
