alright, to start off with, i feel dumb asking this question because i'm sure people out there are going to tear me apart for it...but oh well.

i have a 97 prelude, and the owner's manual and some other sources say that my fuel capacity is 15.9 gallons? When i run my car until the needle is at or pracically below E, it has never taken more than 12.5 gallons to fill up. Is the prelude's capacity really 12 or 13 gallons? is my fuel gauge messed up? or some other explaination

Re: Fuel Capacity

No 15.9 is correct, you don't want to get so low that your fuel pump has to work so hard to get that fuel out of the tank. The light comes on for a reason, I usually get gas right away if I notice I'm an 1/8th tank left.

Re: Fuel Capacity

the low fuel light has never came on either, even when my needle is really low....but even if it was reserve fuel to conserve the fuel pump, i doubt it would have a 3.5 gallon reserve?

Re: Fuel Capacity

Maybe your gauge is messed up , or your fuel sending unit needs to be replaced.

Re: Fuel Capacity

The fuel gague in a Prelude is a law unto itself. That's generally correct if you've got roughly 1/4 of a tank left and the needle says empty.

Re: Fuel Capacity

You have about 3 gallons in reserve when the light turns on.
