Out side of all the normal think to look at when buying a used car. (more so with a lude b/c thears a good chance it was run hard a lot) The auto tranny from the first few years had some problems and that's really about it.

ah ok so if the outside is fine and the engine is in good condition then i shouldnt worry about much and by the way the preludes that im looking at are manual so theres nothing else i really need to worry about?? service history or anything like that

Re: Thinkin Of Buying a 5th Gen

mileage has alot to do with the car. If you see that it has alot of modifications, then most likely it was a young person racing it so just be aware of that. If you see that its stock, manual, low mileage, and you test drove it, then go for it. The reason I say manuals because lots aof 5th gens tend to have problems with their automatic trannys so be careful. Also you cant go wrong with a manual lude, its just so fun to drive! If it has over 90k make sure the timing belt and water pump has been already changed or be aware if you need to change it. Then it comes down to if youre looking for a base or sh. The sh model tends to be a little more costly but dont get fooled.

Re: Thinkin Of Buying a 5th Gen

  1. mileage
  2. timing belt
  3. oil changes
  4. make sure no oil leaks or any leaks
  5. when was clutch replaced
  6. no gears grinding
  7. last tune-up
also you can look at tire tread, interior, ride quality (shocks/stuts), rust, dents and dings to get the price lower.

good luck and hurry up and get one already! LOL
