Problem with 5g Prelude

ok, so im going to try to sum this up to not be a book.

recently bought prelude for cheap, expected problems. fixed most. new problem:

after driving for 20 or 30 minutes above 65mph on the highway, i hear a weird vibrating sound sort of like when you go over a bunch of rough highway, like bumpbumpbumpbump. hard to describe, but it only happens while i push the gas. if i let up, it goes away, but comes back when i push the gas again. and i can feel it in the gas pedal, but not the steering wheel, and the car doesnt seem to be vibrating. mostly just hear it, like suspension/wheel/tire sounds.

Had a bent rim, replaced it and the hub underneath. Front tires had interior wear but were pretty old, replaced all four tires. so tires wheels okay. its softer now but still pretty pronounced.

it never happens in town or during shorter trips on the highway. i have ss tranny, and seems to be wearing down but dont know why that would make that weird noise, and it doesnt do anything crazy like slip or miss gears.

Check the bolts holding everything together
had a friend with an audi TT that did the same thing but at 50mph. He got another axle and before changing it they saw it was a lose bolt

Re: Problem with 5g Prelude

I have done a drain and fill, but only about two quarts, i didnt keep repeating it. I also put in some Lucas transmission crap to help the hold transmission, which actually did help alot.

Is she slow to pick up speed like when trying to pass a car at first but then picks up?

Re: Problem with 5g Prelude

Sort of yeah. My catalytic converter is shot, and sometimes it plugs up a little and makes the car slow but doesnt rattle, then sometimes it rattles alot but accelerates normal. I just ordered the Magnaflow hi flow cat. Hope that helps, a tech told me it could somehow be causing problems through the backpressure.

Re: Problem with 5g Prelude

just so everyone knows for reference, the problem i have is called torque converter shutter. although till i get it checked more, they say it doesnt necessarily have to be from the converter, thats jsut the common name. so my ss trans is a peice of crap, whats new? im having it checked more wednesday. anyone know cheap ways to get trans rebuilt? (i cant afford a conversion, so dont even mention it lol.)

Re: Problem with 5g Prelude

Well okay then...
The TC shudder got horribly worse, to the point I was looking into a TC replacement, then just the whole M6H1, since its so damn expensive.

Well would you believe I put a $7 bottle of Dr. Tranny ("INSTANT SHUDDER FIX") and old Dr. Tranny is a straight up guy, cuz that stuff worked instantly. I mean one minute I'm limping down the highway, decide to randomly stop at OReillys, put the stuff in, next minute I went 30 miles and all my shifts are perfect now and NO shudder. It was like early Christmas.

For the record, it was probly the crappy fluid Midas put in there, so I wouldn't expect miracles if your trans is shot. Hope this helps someone though.
