ect cel and vtech !!!!!!!!!!!!!!help

Ok so My 97 prelude is throwing a cel. Its the p0117 coolant temperature sensor. So i changed it and bought a OBD2 scanner and tried to erase it but it just comes right back on. So I put a meter on the sensors connections and it said I was getting over 13 volts and no Ohms, don't know if that means anything but more info is always better. So I am thinking that there is a bad connection between the connector and the ecu. Plz tell me I'm wrong and that it is some simple.I have no upgrades and no shortcuts on this engine.

Two things, and forgive me for being a douche.
Well, maybe more than two.

First, "VTEC". Variable valve timing and electronic lift control.
Not variable valve timing and electronic lift control = hawt.
no h.

Second, I think there's a CEL resource guide on the site somewhere.
Third, google is your freind :P

o_o

From what I've read during my own research, the ECT is either not receiving power, not installed correctly, or malfunctioning.

I read that you replaced it, so this code could mean something else, too, but like I said, google ftw.

Also, aren't those OBD2 scanners mad expensive? You can get the code cleared at auto zone for free.

Re: ect cel and vtech !!!!!!!!!!!!!!help

after you replaced coolant temperature sensor did you disconnect your battery?

your ECU may still be reading the code from the old one.

if you didn't disconnect during or after you swapped the sensor our than go disconnect your battery. let the car sit for 5-10 mins and the CEL should clear.

good luck!

Word. You can just pull the battery fuse in the underhood fuse-block also. That should do it.
