Re: should i buy a prelude with 200,000 miles on it, I need an oppinion

how does it run?
auto or manual trans?
when was timing belt done?
if 5spd when was clutch done?
is it burning oil?
do you know for a fact it was well maintained?
what condition is the body in?
are the miles mostly highway?

HOW MUCH DOES HE WANT?

if it is a well maintained lude at a good price w/ most service records or knowledge that services were done and done correctly (oil changes, clutch, timing belt, tune ups, etc...) than i'd say buy it!!

x2 for real
also does he have maintenence records of any and all claimed work done. im reiterating this point cause alot of people claim work but have no proof. you dont want to get stuck with a lemon, even if it is a lude.

miles don't mean to much (to me any way). I seen cars under 70k brak down and i have a 68 vw bug with god know how many miles on it still running fine. Now if any thing have u a lil worried or they guy has none of the records for it i walke unless you can get a hell of a deal.

Re: should i buy a prelude with 200,000 miles on it, I need an oppinion

All of these people are giving you good estimations,
but i blow everyone out of the water, and i do because i know first hand what its like to own a 200,000+ prelude.

First;
How ****in' cool is it to tell everyone that youhave 200k+ miles, awesome!!

second;
mine has 206k nd it runs like a champ, a little leaky, but a champ!

thrid;
my compression numbers raped a new vehicle's compression numbers because they don't take care of it (07 camry, i consider that new)

if it's healthy and made it to 200,000 miles it should still have a good 150,000+ left before a motor blows up if you take care of it, than you go ahead and get a new one, the car will most likely outlive you!

Re: should i buy a prelude with 200,000 miles on it, I need an oppinion

Word. Any prelude with an H22 "burns" oil because of the FRM cylinder walls, but like someone else stated, look for all those things, and if the guy acts fishy at all about anything, I'd say walk away. I bought my Prelude from a high school buddy, as soon as he put it up for sale I made him an offer because I used to kick it with him and knew how well he took care of the car. The owner before him had all maintence records (he bought the car brand new), and this kid was ridiculous in the way he took care of the car. This car has never gone more than 2800 miles between oil changes. Basically, maintenance makes or breaks a car. Unless it's a Jeep, then it just sucks regardless.

Re: should i buy a prelude with 200,000 miles on it, I need an oppinion

i'd run a compression test, i bought my first lude when i was like 19 or 20 or something, i ran it up from 160,000 to 210,000 miles and beat on it the entire time until it finally died because i blew up the piston rings. i think all 4 cylinders were down to something like 40 psi when it just stopped starting. so my point is that if i hadn't been an a**hole and beat the hell out of it i would still be driving it today. now i bought an 80,000 mile lude and its giving me more grief than that old one ever did till the day it dies.... karma maybe for treating my last one like such poo?

Re: should i buy a prelude with 200,000 miles on it, I need an oppinion

nope no codes, im replacing all the little stuff, giving it the TLC i never gave the last one. so far i've done wires, plugs, tightened the throttle cable, replaced the air cone, fuel filter, oil and oil filter, pcv valve. im going to do the timing belt soon and water cooler. oh and i had to replace the catalytic converter. its running alot better now... oh and i ran the fuel system cleaner stuff and oil treatment stuff along with the oil change.

i do have an ATTS light though... but that damn system usually costs an arm and a leg to have fixed so im not worrying about it at the moment, at least till summer comes and i hit the mountain backroads.
