Big Question

Ok everyone well i tried this earlier on my phone..thought i had it in this forum but i guess i didn't..kinda hard to read really small text. But i am currently caught in a delima..I got out of basic finally and I am in Tech school for mechanic..but i don't live at my parents house so i can no longer milk my Insurance down because of my mom. so the insurance company wanna charge me a nice 2.5k every 6 months for insurance...and well i can't afford that. and I was thinking off swithcing vechiles to a 4 door lancer or civic..but not sure...need to make car insurance cheaper for a while. I am debating on whether or not to sell the prelude as is. and get a more econmical car to drive. If anyone can help me out with decision any info would be good..if you are interested in the car let me know as well..Thank you. if possible email if interested in car..makes it easier to read one cell phone. then trying to surf to the website.

Re: Big Question

it's simple. if you can't afford it, you have to sell it.
School is important, wether it's trade or college. So invest in your future.

If the lude stays in your heart, you'll get another one some day.

Re: Big Question

$2.5k for insurance, every six months? Fking hell, in 18 months you could've bought another one! How the hell can they justify that?

But as Og said straight up, if you can't afford it you can't afford it.

Re: Big Question

Post your car in the "For Sale" sections with complete details about your car and more pictures. We dont know mileage, condition, aftermarket parts, history, accidents ...

But yea I agree. If you cant afford the car, then you dont have a choice. I'm going to be putting my lude down for awhile after I get my license back. I'll probably drive a geo metro till my insurance isnt 3k a year (or w/e it may be)

Re: Big Question

I pay $1200 every six months but 5 grand a year for insurance is down right ludicrous. That's insane man. But if you can't afford I would say get rid of it and buy another Honda/Acura. You should get an Insight and do a K20 swap! LoL no but seriously, like someone else said, if your heart is really with the Prelude, it will come back to you someday. Good luck on the sale if you end up selling!

I say find a beater for 4-500 and keep her stored on jack stands. Get some dirt cheap insurance, and then be done.

Re: Big Question

So what I'm trying to understand, is how is it that much? Unless you have a terrible DUI record, a terrible accident record, and a terrible moving violation record, OR are making payments on this car, that's crazy.

If you're making payments, then read no further.
If you're not, buy a cheap 4g accord, take the lude off your insurance, and keep it around until you have the money to insure it again.

And who knows, if you're careful, you can still drive it now and then >_>

BUT, if it has a lien on it, I'm wondering how you plan to sell it anyway.

Re: Big Question

If you just got out of basic that means your military. Look around for insurance companies that give you military discounts and sh*t man. Geico and USAA do I know. I don't see how they're raping you so bad. I'm 20, 1 prior accident, 1 still on my driving record and full coverage on my 4th Gen and only pay $1134 every 6 months.

Re: Big Question

2.5k every 6 months? that is out-****in-rageous. have you tried calling other insurance companies. get quotes from other companies. call your insurance company and say something like, i got a quote from this company for this much (if its cheeper) an i think i'm gonna cancel my insurance. and they will try to bargin with you........ its worked for me.. i pay less than a hundred a month on my prelude. infact i pay like 350 a month on 3 cars.... 00 prelude 08 TC and a 93 accord. granted im 24, married, and own a house...... but my driving record isn't that great. try it out and see what happens.

Tech school huh? I came in the air force for VMX and the recruiter screwed me. I didn't find out till I got to meps ready to fly out to basic, that I'd be doing V-Ops instead. I think your Tech school is like 6 months right? If you can hold out till you get to your first duty station, things will get better. And according to what state you're in, your insurance might go down. If you can't hold out till then, sell it man, you can always try to get another one later (easier said than done).

yea it will help lower your insurance actually. not only that, you can get the option of BAH and BAS once your married so you will have some extra cashflow. talk to USAA though. they may give you some good options. Also, you can lower certain parts of your coverage now that you have free Tricare health insurance.

Re: Big Question

like when they ask you how much money you want to be insured for your health in the event of an accident.....since you and your family will have free health insurance, you wouldnt need to invest any money for that part. When you call the insurance company and they start asking you all those questions, take the time to ask them specifically what it means. you can check the websites too. I use progressive and they gave me the hookup.

when you call the ins companies, also write down everything they are saying so you can get a "visual" understanding. that is one of the tricks they play. by giving you a bunch of overwhelming numbers and info, they hope you say ok, whatever sounds good to you. That is a very common ploy with insurance companies and car dealers as well. Just take the time to understand all the terms and what exactly is required, what isn't etc. I do recommend having some coverage on all 3 types. (liability, collision, and comprehensive)

this first link should tell you more than enough....the second one will tell you even more!!!

what base is your tech school at?
