Advice on what to do about lip

So I picked up the front and rear OEM lips from being painted today. They don't match very well. The white that they used is a little "brighter" than what is on the car, it is not SUPER noticeable but from up close it is obvious. (I will post pics when I can) What do you guys think that I should do? I would say that it isn't like a sore thumb but I can tell.... I don't know if you can get that pearl white to get that close...

Re: Advice on what to do about lip

whites will never be the same color when painted.its just one of those things. you could hit your whole car with a rubbing compound and a wax to try and get some of the white back

it's weird the white that the lips are painted with is less of a cream color than the rest of the car is...

No but they didn't realize it was a pearl either until I showed up, The guy said that after it is in the sun a while it should match better.... but I don't know, I will take pics.

If they got a paint code and it doesnt match take it back up to them. Any professional shop will stand behind their work.

Re: Advice on what to do about lip

well you have to think that your cars paint is at least 8 years old. the white gets dirty and stuff over the years and tar and crap from the road gets in the clear coat making it look less bright. when i took a rubbing compound to my hood i only did one half to compare the difference and the side i had not cleaned looked like it was in the shade. it was a very noticeable difference

Re: Advice on what to do about lip

I am going to take it back to them tomorrow. It does look quite a bit different, enough to complain, The car is an 01 that only has 48k on it, it has been garaged it's whole life. The paint is like new. The paint on the car is much more of a "cream" color than that of the lip now.. I left the car with them and they said that they were going to use the paint code to match it.

This is how the original conversation went....

"So how do you guy's color match?"

"We just get the paint code off the car and mix it up"

"so it is basically a perfect match?"

"yeah it should be really close"

That's really noticeable man. Tell them to fix it, and if they don't, take some Valkyr and stomp their asses out.

Re: Advice on what to do about lip

It does have some dirt on it but it was very recently buffed and waxed. The good news is that the manager said that they are going to take it in on Monday and redo it. Hopefully we will have better luck this time around.

If they didn't put a certain pearl into the paint it wont match AT ALL. Adding one color or forgetting to add it to the mixture makes a VERY big difference.

judging by that pic they def didn't either mix it correctly or just made a complete different color. Whites aren't prone to match but to mismatch that much NO.

Re: Advice on what to do about lip

so I picked up the lips from the body shop today for the second time, they seem to match better, still not super good, there is a pretty big contrast where the edge of the lip meets the bumper but it is harder to tell I don't know what to do, they painter says that is as close as they are ever going to get, I guess they are going to try and buff my front bumper out and see it if brightens it up at all...... ughhhhh I don't know what to do.... They said if I wanted they would try and blend the color into the bumper but then the extra clear coat could mess up the rest of it. Any ideas? I will try and take pics soon.

Re: Advice on what to do about lip

how much did you pay for it? sorry of i missed it. i wouldn't let them blend into your bumper, i know from experience it'll most likely oxidize badly in the future. but then again your car is white...

i like that white, if anything i think your car's cream color is unnatural. but i have a black car so i don't know jack about the whites.

Yeah man, it's still not that great. Ask for your money back and if they don't do it, tell them to go **** themselves. Oh, and tell them to learn how to paint match too.

White is one of the hardest colors to match next to silver. Have them buff it and see how it turns out.
