Icon5 Turbo 5th gen OR wrx??

i currently have a 5th gen lude and i was thinking bout going turbo. but then i thought i should just get a wrx. what do people think is better. i mean i love how ludes look and a turbo 5th gen would be nice. but i also like how the wrx is awd which is perfect for any weather. and also is only bout 100 pounds heavier, so it seems a lil more practical being that its a sedan.

Re: Turbo 5th gen OR wrx??

turbo ludes are over-rated

but no really, i think the only replacement to the lude is gonna be either an STI or evo, cuz they're a lil more practical with my lifestyle (mainly snowboarding)

Re: Turbo 5th gen OR wrx??

awd=more wasted gas...

you already need to fill up premium with either one, so i would go with the one that looks color......the lude.

just buy some beater outback if you want an all weather car

Re: Turbo 5th gen OR wrx??

You can't compare them. They're two totally different cars. You're talking about spending heaps of money on a NA FWD coupe, as opposed to buying a AWD sedan that's already has the bulk of what you want power wise.

If you want to be fast, then probably the purchase of a WRX is the logical choice, since in stock form they're already noticably quicker than the Prelude, and have a lot more aftermarket tuning parts available.

Re: Turbo 5th gen OR wrx??

your right..but i wouldnt want the new evo seeming there more harder to mod since everything is done by the computer and voids your warrenty just like the new GTR. i mean you can put a whole exhaust system, and if you are able to, ecu flash the computer (kiss warranty goodbye =D) but thats all i heard thats been done so far.

now if you want to go with a crazy build evo...the 8-9 are the best ones to chose, but they dont have a "nice" interior like the sti's do..but then again you want something fast and nice and a little heavy, or something a little lighter not bad looking in the inside, and fast as hell?

Re: Turbo 5th gen OR wrx??

Honestly, I hate the WRX, STI, and I'm still not sure on the Evo.

BUT.. The prelude is a FWD Coupe, and to be safe, and happy with a boosted prelude, you're going to have to put a ton of money down. Your turbo build, without swapping the stock internals, will run at LEAST $2,000, common knowledge, plus maintenance habits change, I'm not sure but I think it might effect insurance, winter will be a pain in the ass, and you're probably, weather you like it or not, going to shorten the life of your prelude considerably.

I'd get a WRX if I had the cash lying around, if I was in your situation.

The prelude is rad as hell, don't get me wrong, but it's expensive, and not practical in the long run, to boost one, unless it's a track thing only.

It's so expensive to boost a prelude though..
He could even buy a WRX and keep his prelude, so he has some G-force when he wants it.

Re: Turbo 5th gen OR wrx??

ALOT OF MONEY to boost the lude.
wrx is fun to drive....
but boosting my lude is the thing ive ever done...... TORQUE STEER all day baby lol.
everyone has either and evo and sti.... WELL I KILL EM BOTH (stock evo 9... and my friends sti) so be prepared to empty that wallet if you wanna be fast... and hopefully reliable.

Re: Turbo 5th gen OR wrx??

There are bunches of cars that come stock with bulletproof internals and a turbo for way less than a WRX too, like the 3SGTE Celica All Trac, and I can tell you right now that that car is a blast and a half to drive, you could import one for like 3K :P

Re: Turbo 5th gen OR wrx??

Il tell you what a wrx has way better handling haha drove my prelude into a rock while racing a wrx, he made the turn going 15MPH faster then me. But a turbo prelude would be cheaper and i think better. Mostly depends on your taste.

Yeah, I'm hopefully going to be buying an alltrac soon, one newer than the one I have, the ST165. I'm really into the ST185, I can't get into the double headlight thing on the 205.

Dude, I've made sharp turns at like, 90, and I'm talking right angle turns, and I survived, no rocks, and at the time I was racing away from a guy who was literally waving a gun at me.

For the record it's pretty easy to get away from a G6 in a prelude heh.
You were racing, and you lost control, that's not his fault. The WRX is pretty big, and it's pretty tall.

To boost a prelude, you're looking at a few grand easy, and it has a huge effect on handling, gas mileage (considering you start driving like you have a turbo, if you maintain habits your mileage will be improved, but fuuck that), and no matter what you do, it'll shorten the life of your prelude.

If you want a winter beater, and you want to boost it, then do that, or buy something that comes with 4WD and a turbo.
This is all really up to you, but I wouldn't boost my prelude if I were you, simply because it's hard on them, and it's so expensive if you want to be safe, and avoid things like death from heat, detonation, lower tire life, lower engine life, more speeding tickets, and the like.

When I bought my prelude I was allllll ****ing horny for a supercharger, but I read up, and I studied up, and I paid attention to all of my boost-crazy buddies, and I decided against it. Honestly, if your car is a DD, and you're running on an average budget, the G force, being pushed into your seat, and the HP gains are tempting, but it's not cost effective.

I can't really even believe I'm saying that.

The Prelude is fast, and it's pretty, but don't push your luck, ya' know? We're already running out of them as it is.

Yeah, I took my turn wide, Gran Tourismo 4 style, haha.
Cut SO ****ing close to the curb, and then I had to ebrake drift onto another road, since apparently they never finished the road I was hauling ass out of that turn onto.

No good.
