need your expert advice

so guys, heres the deal, i love my 01 base prelude, but its not driving the way i wanted it to... i feel like when im on the highway and i downshift to pass the next guy, it doesnt go the way i wanted it to go, like its lacking some sort of power or torque, when i drove my gf's rsx i was in love, i was passing people left and right gradually and it picks up speed like nothing...

so heres what i have on my car
aem intake and i live in boston, ma
i have a reg factory exhaust for now, what do you suggest i should get?
i have a 3rd stage clutch
and i have a dc header
and i have stock rims 15 inch, i should upgrade to how many inch, 17 u think?

i was also looking for new rims and tires for my car, 17in and up, any sellers?

so what else do you think that i would need to boost my car up, i have the car for 3 years, no tune up yet, but sythetic oil change, filter change, but never cleaned the aem filter in 3 years, that might be something too? i mean should i take it to a mechanic and have it hook up to a machine and go from there? i dont think im getting enough torque, i want more torque!

see i love the car , i don t want to rid it, i want to improve it...

so any thoughts guys~!?!?

How many miles you got? Def clean the filter(not the problem but good to clean it). Stock rims I believe is 16". Get a tune up. A new exhaust would help the air flow out better.

AEM intake is a decent intake, you could look into getting a cold air by better brands. You really dont gain too much here.

Exhaust -> DC Headers have been proven to make little if NO gain over factory exhaust manifolds. Take a look around at N/A H22's. I've heard good things about megan.

You have a stage 3 clutch??? That is way overkill. You probably spent bookoo dollars for something that you dont need. With basic bolt on mods a stage 1 clutch or OEM clutch is fine. Here I recommend Exedy (as I have one and love it) or a few others. Cusco is another big brand, though I'm not sure if they make h22 clutches. go with Exedy clutch and a 11.5lb fidanza flywheel.

Bigger rims will slow you down. Neck said it awhile ago, but let me paraphrase.
16 Inch rims are the best performance/style size that you can go with. Any bigger will make your ride quality shiity, and slow your car down. 16's are your best bet. Anything bigger than that, your losing performance.

If your looking for more performance, clean your airfilter, and look for a good exhaust. stay away from Ebay. If you still feel like you need more power, maybe look into cams, or look for performance upgrades. There are threads all over the place for performance.

It depends on your budget, how much time you want your lude to be down, and what your goals are for your car.

Only 97k? That's nothing you're not even broken in yet. Just keep up on the maintenance, give your car a tune up you'll be surprised how well your car runs. Maintenance before mods.

Also, if the RSX is the Type-S... well that kind of explains it. Stock Forced Induction > Slightly Modded N/A

If most of your power band is gone, take a look at your cat, it might be clogged. Take your o2 sensor off and take it for a spin (really loud) if your power band is back then its your cat.

yea conflict could be right there, but if that doesnt solve anything, check your injectors, might need to swap ur O-rings. Also, if you've got an aftermarket header u could upgrade the rest of ur exhaust. I'd go with 2.5 - 3.0" pipe. Clean ur air filter and swap ur fuel filter. Then definetely check ur plugs and wires, u might have a cylinder not firing. Hope that helps

No dont pull the stage 3 out. let it go till it gets beat. no point in wasting a good expensive clutch by throwing it away.

and rsx type s a little bit more powerful, and you get the option of a 6th gear. K20 with basic bolt ons makes easy 200 whp. with a tune it makes 220. h22 makes like 180 and like 195 with a tune. Thats one of the main reasons you see more k20 civics that h22s.

Re: need your expert advice

You crazy Joe Rogan. YOU CRAZY!!! I had the 5th gear grind happen to me one time, I was hauling balls through the top of 3rd gear, and decided that was enough so I shifted into 5th right away and it grinded a little. I would assume it's just the synchros being abused.

Re: need your expert advice

yea if your getting a grinding on an gear besides 2, its most likely a bad synchro. 2nd gear is usually the only gear to ever get chewed up. (sometimes 3rd too if you cant drive)

its only when im going into 5th gear i hear a grind but clutch is stepped all the way down, its not that i dont know how to drive it, it just started, and i also notice that my brake lights keeps coming on even after i already replaced the breaks.

yeah i have a long way with my car, i was thinkin of dolling it up or trade it in for an rsx for the torque.

Re: need your expert advice

Thats your emergency brake light. There is a thread somewhere around here, with some guy trying to diagnose his "brake" light problem. Yea if your synchro is just grinding on 5th its not that bad. But try not to beat on tranny too much. Having to replace the synchro would suck.

u should take a look at your ignition and maybe go with msd wires and cap and rotor and iridium plugs, and look into getting a aftermarket battery grounding kit, and voltage stabilizer, that should give u better throttle response and gas milelage, plus more power, i just got my voltage stabilizer and i love it.

yeah i have a long way with my car, i was thinkin of dolling it up or trade it in for an rsx for the torque.
Check your fluid level, mine was low and started to grind a little bit. Well you already have the air intake, and a DC Sports header. I would also check out that CAT problem (if there really is one) get a tune up looks like your factory plug wires on there. Get new plugs preferably NGK, new wires, cap and rotor button. I think after that you will be impressed.

My brother has a 04 RSX type S with AEM V2 intake, and I think its stock exhuast but stock for stock he is like around 200HP (and has more torque) and we are only around 170. Plus their gearboxes are close ratio w/ a 6 speed so they get up on power alot quicker than ours.

If you have the chance go w/ a less aggressive clutch than your stage 3? and get a light flywheel (8lbs) that should help out a little too.

I have a fidanza set up I have yet to install 4 puck kevlar clutch w/ a fidanza 8lb flywheel I hear its great but like I said I have yet to install it.

Definetly clean that filter, it's got to be the reason you don't have power.
