metal head gasket and shaved head plus cams

i have a h22a4 motor in my prelude and am wanting to go NA with it. i want to increase the compression and get some nice raw (safe/ moderatly trouble free) power out of it. i saw an add for a thin metal head gasket claiming to increase compression by .5 and adding 19 whp on a stock h22 motor, 1st i was wondering if this sounds a little farfetched to you or not... my idea was to get this gasket and shave my head (along with port and polish of course), i dont know maybe 2mm or so, and then get stage 2 bc cams. now my question is 1st does anyone think with a head thinner gasket and a shaved head combined with larger cams my valves would hit my piston at all? are there any other precautions i should take when i go to go do this? also have you ever heard of anybody doing this on this motor befor? do you think my pistons can handle it (right now stock compression is 10:1 but the type s prelude is 11:1 and comes with forged pistons)?
any help you can send my way would be greatly appreciated.

Re: metal head gasket and shaved head plus cams

I dunno if it's metal or not but I think Cometic makes a head gasket that will bump compression up a little bit, not sure exactly how much. I have heard of people shaving the head and using that gasket but not sure what else it entailed to get it to work.

Also, have you seen any dyno charts for the BC cams on a stock/relatively stock H22? I've been lookin' for some, lemme know if you found any.

Re: metal head gasket and shaved head plus cams

dont shave your head its not worth it over some VERYYY tiny compression change...Also do skunk2 cams if your doing motor and not turbo.also if your talking about the type s motor and buying it just for some compression have fun wasting a **** load of money for 1 compression higher.

Do some research and stuff and find out what you wanna do.do Skunk2 cams only imo,Find a really good thin headgasket for the extra comp,do some wiseco or jp pistons if you wanna play with your compression not a type s motor or just get the type s pistons n rods...

Do you have dyno charts to prove that S2 is better than BC?

Re: metal head gasket and shaved head plus cams

well you cant go wrong with crower cams either. but what is wrong with shaving the head. nothing. when you take off an aluminum head there is a chance for possible warpage. so when you take it to the machine shop they will take measurements to see if the head warped at all. if it is then it is a must to shave it. but if you are just trying to get more compression i say go for it. it only cost about $50 or so.

i shaved my head when i did my head and i have had no problems. its only a good precaution with aluminum heads anyways

Re: metal head gasket and shaved head plus cams

yes true there is nothing wrong with crower but after the thousands of builds ive seen skunk2 always was used for all motor and crower was used more towards turbo. Now im not saying either are bad personally I like crower parts more.Just skunk2 is what I see used no all motor

Re: metal head gasket and shaved head plus cams

There is a lot to camming your car. I'm not 100% familiar with honda applications, but let me just say this...

I know for a fact that skunk2 makes power in the mid to upper RPMS. I believe it was quoted that crower makes power around mid range rpms. I know skunk2's cams are mostly geared to top end power and I'll look around for the source. I've never heard bad things about crower or skunk2. Do some research online. look for reviews on both. look what N/A applications use what cams and valvetrain upgrades.
