****ing auto transmission..

Alright, I've had problems with this tranny in the past, I did a rebuild, way before I knew anything about my car, and should've done a five speed swap, but like I said, I was in the dark.

On my way home from Colorado, my car gushed transmission fluid, got too hot, fluid breach, blah blah.

Filled 'er back up, things were fine, but meh.

I've got a hot smell under my hood after a day of driving for work.
I know the smell of hot tranny fluid pretty well, because I had it all over me on the highway twenty miles outside Trinidad, Colorado.

It smells like it's burning, but I'm not putting a ****load of stress on it or anything. Not much hilly driving, not really road racing or anything, I hit VTEC MAYBE once every two days, and that's in first, around a corner, through a light, stuff like that.

I use my triptronics mainly, because I hate automatics, I only bought this car because I was in a kind of any port in the storm situation..

I'm looking for a five speed prelude now, I'm not willing to do the swap, I've already invested a bunch of money in the tranny as it is, I'd hate to just toss it.

I'm wondering, would a transmission cooler help? I had one on before, but I had to take it off because the shop that fixed my transmission the first time gave me a warranty, and I didn't want to get the whole "OH AFTERMARKET PARTS, YOU ****ED UP YOUR TRANSMISSION, NOT US" thing.

Anyway, I'm concerned with winter temperatures cooling the transmission fluid TOO much? We hit freezing at night fairly often, and I don't want my transmission fluid just sitting in a cooler overnight.

Point is, I don't know what's wrong, or what to do.
I'm going to flush it this weekend and replace the Honda ATF and maybe it'll just sort itself out, but I'm nervous about it.

Right now I'm looking for a fifth gen five speed for like 6kish, that'd be great, but until then, I want this one to stand up, and since I'm planning on selling it, I don't want to screw the buyer and give them a shot as hell tranny.

Any ideas?

And don't just say "SELL IT" or "5SPEED SWAP" plz, heh, that's the plan anyway.

Re: ****ing auto transmission..

Technically the car already has a trans cooler. The trans fluid loops around in a designated section at the lower end of the radiator.

Re: ****ing auto transmission..

Age old 5 sp swap. I would sell the auto and buy a stick. I think its cheaper and not as much of a headache, IMO.

You know when I was looking for my 5th Gen I could have and seen many autos but I waited and got my 5 speed. It was worth the wait.

Sorry your having so much trouble, hopefully when you change out your fluid it will iron itself out, good luck

Re: ****ing auto transmission..

I'm going to just sell it for cheap and buy a 5 Speed I think, but I'd like to have this fixed.
I might just be overfilled and getting foam in the lines, I'm going to work on it tomorrow probably.

You can probably get a decent amount of money for it if you just swapped out your trannie some fool who doesn't know the evils of the prelude auto trannie will probably buy it.
