I've owned both and yeah the 5sp is way faster than the auto and its just more relaxing for me not to have to worry about the auto anymore

Agreed had a choice between an auto and a 5 speed. Auto was slower but in way way better shape so I took it. Plan on changing it over in the future though

Re: 2001 luder

Welcome to the site bra. Oh wait this aint an intro thread^ back on topic man lol. Yes 5 speed is not only faster but its more reliable than the f'd up auto tranny that came from the factory (I have no experience, but I just heard ALOT of stories). Its also much more fun to drive too.

Re: 2001 luder

Yeah, I got the auto as well and I got a co-worker with a f150 that makes fun of me for beating me at the track. I want to do the swap but finding all the parts is a b!*ch and I'm not sure what the cost are gonna be. Plus I need to find a reliable mech who can do the job for not too high a price.

Re: 2001 luder

you need tranny, axles, linkage, slave cyl, master cyl, pedal assembly clutch and flywheel of course, and all of the necessary hardware. depending on where you get all of that stuff will determine the cost of the project, plus you have to factor in labor if you get it done somewhere. it should cost you in the neighborhood of 3000 icluding labor.

HELL YEAH!! 5spd swap ftmfw.

i recently sold my motor, tranny, ecu, slave, linkage, etc for $3500. and i know that the motor is worth minimum of $1000-$1800. so you're probably lookin at up to a $2000 dollar investment for the swap plus labor if you don't do the work yourself.

good luck and both of you should swap that garbage auto tranny out asap!

That part in red is why I tell people to sell the auto and buy a 5sp with the money you save you can afford to either do all the bolt ons or maybe even put in some hot cams or something done to suspension and wheels.
