BIG PROBLEM COOLING FANS NOT WORKING

whats up Preludezone,

I ran into a big problem lately i stripped the interior of my car to dynamat the whole cabin.....not sure if this problem occure befor or after the strippin but out of no where my cars cooling fans stoped working...no heat no ac nothing.....

so i pulled the relay out there are 4 pins and i get power to one pin and when i jump them to the other one the radator fan turns on...constantly not when the car heats up and when i play with it i get the ac to turn on but when i plug the relay back in nothing...i work at a body shop and pulled another relay out of a crashed civic and not still dosent work (but i am not sure if this relay was in working condition) soo now i am going to order a new one from honda what i am afraid of is if this new relay does not solve the problem i have no where else to check (i checked the fuses...wires loose everything this i can think up possibley i might have over seen something) but i am in desperate need of help

Thanks

Re: BIG PROBLEM COOLING FANS NOT WORKING

it could be the coolant fan temperature sensor.

actually... if the fan is working. check the relay... for example: that relay might something else like the high beam relay. put that fan relay in the high beam relay spot turn the high beams on ...and if it works... then move on the to the switch... basically you jump the two wires at the plug. if the fan kicks on... constantly while the plug is jumped its your switch. lemme know what you come up w/

take a plug off of a thermostat and jump it. if the fan comes on your relay is fine. if it doesnt come on your relay is bad. if it still doesnt come on when your relay is replaced, then something else is wrong (tstat, bad fan, loose wire). only 1 fan should come on when you jump the tstat, the other fan comes on when you turn the a/c on.

On my third Gen I had a broken wire inside the insulation right there at connector at the fan motor, would have never found it if I didn't reach down and wiggle the wires it came on for a second then off so I got out the ol trusty meter and found the break and re spliced and heat shrinked some wire in there, hope this helps.

Re: BIG PROBLEM COOLING FANS NOT WORKING

I appriciate all the help....
what has my mind boggled is when i pull the cooling fan relay out and test the holder for the relay i get 1 pos nd 3 neg....so then i take a wire and jump the pos to on of the neg and all the fans come on constantly if i jump the two neg just the cooling fan comes on....if i jump pos to another neg and ac fan comes on......soo i am thinking the relay is shot b/c if i am getting power to the relay holder and then jump it and everything turns on dosent that mean there is no short.....but the problem is they stay on constantly but when i put the relay back in nothing no power to the fans no power to the ac/heat cant fingure out what would cause this other then the relay or possibly a bad switch somewhere not letting the power jjump over
